He may also not want to have to deal with another inevitable COVID bubble/no fans situation.

Listening to Friedman it sounds like it's possible the coach and GM had discussions and it may be a case of letting Maurice go on his terms rather than fire him.

I think it makes him more hirable by another team since he made a selfless decision to resign rather than be fired but still getting paid. He was probably thinking long term.

I wouldn't be surprised if he is back in the league before the end of the season. He is a good coach, but nearly all coaches have a point where they are no longer effective with the same group.

Good riddance

Should have been fired 4 years ago

I am going to pull a Francis and make a claim with absolutely no information but makes a ton of sense to me. He is going to New Jersey

That's what I took away from it. Sounded like pandemic fatigue really got to him.

Hoping NJD jumps on him. I think he'd be better than Ruff with that team.

Money isn’t everything. He’s probably got enough and wasn’t happy. Good on him.

He is right though. If I was a Flames fan it would drive us nuts to see the same coach over 8 years of mediocrity. This should have been done years ago as they have wasted a lot of the prime years of some of the players.

I also hope Paul Maurice is okay and that it isn't health related, the last couple years have been tough on a lot of people.
I also don't believe that he won't get at least partially paid for that last year on his contract.

Hope he's okay.

Seems pretty obvious...writing was on the wall. This idea he just quit for the good of the team lol.

It was either quit or be fired, happens all the time

This
In addition, when he wants to come back, a team would be willing to throw a nice contract at him.
There aren't many who exit on their own terms. I have a ton of respect for him for doing this the way he did.

Yeah the results on Maurice have really been hard to decipher.

He has been a head coach since 1995 and he's only 54.

You don't leave that kind of money behind, you make them pay you out by firing you.

He has to have something else lined up. It's the only way it makes sense.
I'm pretty sure there was some kind of a parting ways deal.

There's no way he doesn't become a well paid talking head on a TSN or Sportsnet. The guy is smart, speaks well and is relatively good looking. For him it would be a zero stress job for big money.

Why deal with pampered spoiled millionaire athetes.
