Don't understand what the issue is with some of you and why there is so much emotion. Let's put aside the fact Roger Millions posted here and that some of you think he's a nice person. Set that aside and treat him like any other member of the hockey media.
Okay we're there? Good.
Bruce Garrioch is a poor media talent as well, if a rumour is accredited to him you always have have several posts replying to "take it with a grain of salt". Why is that okay and calling out another guy wrong? Sorry guys, but I won't hold Millions to a lower standard because he's posted here previously, not going to do that. It doesn't matter if it's injury reports, line matches, or how to pronounce Jakub Nakladal, Roger Millions will somehow report it wrong. He's in a rush to be first and would be better served taking a second or two and getting it right.
Also please don't brush things aside "because it's twitter". That's so ridiculous. Twitter is the tool these guys use now. Do you only accept things as factual if it's printed in the Sunday edition of the Calgary Sun?
Double also, and I hate the fact I have to say this, most know Roger and I don't exactly like each other, on a personal level. I think he's a good broadcaster but as a person I see him differently. I can separate the two, and I hope you can in any possible replies to this. That might not be needed but I feel like it'll be brought up and wanted to cut it off at the pass.
I disagree on the Twitter part, for me it's the whole point, to be honest the fact that it's Roger is not relevant. It's the entitled crying that goes on over it. If you chose to consume your updates and media over a source like Twitter, because you want and can't live without the instant and easily digestible sound bites, then you must also deal with its flaws. Twitter is meant to be quick and relatively real time, which also makes it easily updateable.
Don't expect the 100% accuracy and or context that might caveiat any inaccuracies of any report if you chose not to wait for an actual broadcast or published article on a web site or print. You can't have it all.
On top of it all, it's just how devastated people get if they had the wrong info for 5mins. Go out and get kidnapped or something, have some real #### happen to you.

It's more than an occasional mistake. He's rightfully earned a reputation as being unreliable, that's not a good thing, that's not something to be applauded.
lol @ wanting his job. That doesn't even make sense and has nothing to do with anything.

Sorry, but this just pisses me off.
I'm watching society in America slowly crumble because of an inability of media to inform people properly, and for the slow an insidious spread of misinformation.
I know it's just sports, but it's symptomatic of the real problems facing all of us: How can we trust any reporting ever?
Some may argue that we should all be smart enough to determine whether a report is trustworthy or not, but when did we all have to go to journalism school just to get some basic information? Why do we have to understand the inherent bias of some publications over another? Whatever happened to reporting facts that were actually verified? Not just from one source, but multiple sources?
No, sorry, it's bull####, and I'm tired of media members getting a pass because the new format allows for them to #### up their reports sometimes. Edward R. Murrow would be rolling over in his grave if he saw the state of reporting today.
So, yeah, I'll continue to bitch about it because I deserve better from my reporters, regardless of the topic they are covering.

We have fake news not because reporters want it, but because consumers *demand* it: it's what they want and choose and prefer to consume. People who refuse to sell them tripe are "elitist". This is not a supply side problem.

Fair enough. Doesn't mean I can't bitch about it though.

Yah, were things were just fine down there until the media screwed it up.........
The Media has been poor for at least 20 years. The formats may change, but bad reporting hasn't. Some of it can be good, but lots isn't.
But we aren't talking about that, we're talking sports reporting. It's fluff, it's fun. And twitter is exactly the tool for quick but more inaccurate info. Deal with it.
Edit.....I really like Ferlands game this year, wouldn't mind seeing him work his way up the lineup with more skilled guys.
Not to derail this thread further, but there most definitely is an issue with Roger as a reporter right now.
It's only in the past 1.5 - 2 years that I've lost trust for Roger as a Flames reporter. He seems to be mimicking Eric Francis and trying to cause controversy where there is none. That's not his job and he shouldn't care about how many twitter hits he's getting. It's about presenting the facts and informing the fans.
He should not be ending tweets with "Hmmmmmmm...." thereby making ridiculous implications that the rest of us read between the lines and freak out.

That is where I think you may be wrong wrong. Like it or not I think a big portion of of media now days is about driving traffic or exposing a brand (in this case SN). Just the way it is now days.
Yeah Roger has gotten a little sloppy that's for sure. There should be some level of accountability expected. I'm starting to think Gene Principe is better

the only thing principe has to do is make sure he meets his McDavid quota. Although I imagine staying awake thinking of different ways to ask the same question could be a bit difficult
1. He's already matched his goal total from a year ago with 4 matching his career high in 43 less games.
2. Needs just 8 more points to match his career high and he's currently on pace to 30.
3. Has 10 pims this year... Also has two fighting majors... Not a single minor penalty and has been credited with 60 hits so far this year.
At 24 years old and still largely a raw talent I truly feel he should be a protected player for us.
His age is really whats needs to be emphasised. He is only a year older than Gaudreau and 2 years older than Monahan. He will continue to improve, and has this year.

So much this.
People often look at a player's age and think: "This guy is what he is, and there is no further expectations on him developing to be something more."
It is true that some players stop developing.. at like 18. Some keep developing into their 30's. A successful veteran like Yzerman completely reinvented himself.
In my opinion, a player is developing until he is no longer developing or starts regressing. Ferland has one professional season under his belt, and it isn't a reach to think that even though he isn't a just drafted 18 year old pick, that he is still learning the finer points of the game, and learning where to go and become more effective.
If you listened to that Flames' podcast, Haynes talked about the direction that Gulutzan has given him. He couldn't remember what the exact parameters were, but Gulutzan told Ferland something like "Your job is to get 4 hits and 4 shots on net with your ice time tonight."
Also in my opinion, I still think he has some untapped offensive potential. I mean, he IS doing better offensively, but I really do believe that Conroy was right a season or two ago in that Ferland can be a 20 goal scorer. He has nice hands, and a pretty good shot. You see him make moves out there that you don't expect a player like him to make. He makes nice plays to find team mates. I think once it clicks for him, it just really clicks.
Ferland is an effective player right now, and the Flames are lucky to have him. However, I also feel that I will be disappointed if this is all he is - I really do think there is more to this kid. He will still be a very good asset for the team if he doesn't develop at all from now on - the Flames will not be disappointed in his play, so don't misunderstand me. I just see a guy who can play such a complete game.
I didn't realize he hasn't taken a minor. That's really impressive for a 2nd year pro that bangs that hard.
