I've watched the team since the 80's and Hamilton is the most exciting for me.
Simply because I feel we needed that young d-man that could grow with the rest of the young team into contender status. Other trades (while exciting) all seemed like they were trying to hit the jackpot in a narrow window to put the team over the top. This one feels like an incredible piece for now and for that bright future. Just feels good that the team has such a great blue print laid out in front of them, allows so much opportunity for development and further tinkering without desperation moves like we saw in the late Darryl Sutter era.
Also I had no idea a player like Hamilton was even a remote possibility for the Flames right now without having to draft one.

Doug Gilmour was one of the best of times, and then the worst of times.

Tanguay was my favorite player in the NHL when we traded for him. I literally lost my mind. I would create mock up jerseys with his name on them during that offseason. I don't think I have ever been as excited for hockey as the 16 year old me was during that time. Not even now.
That being said, I think the Hamilton trade would be number 2. I was about to leave work, ridiculously pissed cause I was supposed to be off an hour earlier but my computer was taking forever to run a report and just as it's finishing up, CP starts posting that we're probably getting Hamilton. I then stayed another 45 minutes later simply cause I needed to know what the return was. Then when I found out it was just picks, and not Gaudreau/Bennett/Monahan going the other way, I was over the moon and spent the next couple hours just reading all the reactions online.
Third, I'd say was the a tie between the Jokinen trade and the Bouwmeester trade. LOL.

Was excited after Cammy from LA
Was more excited when we picked up 30 goal scorer Jokinen prior to our blue line being decimated by injuries, and he scored 2 or 3 in his first game vs the Flyers. People thought the Flames were possibly a cup favourite. And then the Blackhawks happened.

The Cammy trade that saw his return to CGY when he never should have left in the first place and sent Rene Bourque out of here. Also brought in fan favorite Karri Ramo.
That was my most exciting Flames trade. It was like Feaster exorcising the Sutter Demons of the past.

The Tanguay trade was pretty cool, I remember hearing a fan yell NOOOOOOO!!!!! in the background as it was announced at the draft.
I got pretty jacked up over the Hamilton trade as well..
The biggest trade that never happened for me was when they were gearing up for a playoff run and it was rumored that the Eliminator was coming back to town... but it never went through. One more epic run of Gelinas would have just been so sweet. But at least the 04 memory is forever untainted.

Another trade that I'm still pretty excited about was when we moved up to get pick #60 and then drafted Oliver "Buzz" Kylington. The fact that most of us were still riding the high from getting Hamilton, then drafting Anderson and then getting someone with the potential of Kylington at #60 was mind bottling.

I wonder how he felt a few months later when Kipper broke the GAA record and led the Flames to the playoffs.

Yup that's the exact quote I remember. Still makes make smile remembering that

Was an exciting time. Had a huge lead in the division, Iggy, Cammalleri, Phaneuf, regehr, Kipper all in their primes, who was gonna stop us now?
Goddamn injuries, that's who...

Agree, but even that day, Aaron Ward was right :/

I remember being pretty excited when we traded for Langkow. He was impressive in Phoenix and our center depth was pretty bad at the time (Lombardi/Yelle/Reinprecht if I remember correctly). And then... lockout.

I whooped pretty loudly when I heard about the trade for Hamilton. I was driving back to work from my lunch break.
I got pretty excited when the Flames acquired Jokinen. The first time.
Also both times they traded for Cammalleri.
The first time they acquired Tanguay.
Another trade that was exciting, not for what we got but how it was announced. The Jarome Iginla trade. It was all over the media that the Flames traded Jarome Iginla to the Bruins and then Feaster comes on after the game and announces that he traded Jarome Iginla to the Penguins. Just the shock value of that moment was fun... it died quickly once you begin to see the return the Flames got for the best player to ever play for them.
Mullen trade was huge too. I remember going through hockeydb (aka O-Pee-Chee hockey cards) to lookup Joey Mullen.
John Tonelli trade was also another exciting one. My dad doesn't get too excited, or show his excitement much but he was sure happy when the Flames got Tonelli.

Part of the excitement of the Cammy to CGY trade (part deux) was him getting pulled in the middle of the third period in the Habs game and rumors were flying in MTL he was being traded. I remember watching that game and going "please be back to CGY please be back to CGY" and BAM! Cammy back to CGY where he belonged.
Such a circus trade and the Flames were on the winning end of that one too.

I was really excited for the Jokinen and Bouwmeester trades at the time. I thought both of these guys were the final piece necessary to turn us into a contender. Unfortunately, the results of these moves have led me to temper my expectations for Dougie.

But Montreal got Ray Borque out of the trade! How can you say Calgary won it?

Another one that was exciting...that many won't agree with...is trading Jarome Iginla.
It was depressing to see the legend go, but after seeing that team flounder for 4/5 seasons it was nice to finally see the management team decide to blow it up and truly commit to a fresh start.
It was a nervous excitement, and I remember going back and forth on it a bit at the time, but really it was an exciting time to follow the team due to all the changes going on. The return didn't get many fans excited, but it was the sign of a new era which was welcomed at that point.

Every trade occurring in 1986 after the Flames longest losing streak that led to their first Stanley Cup finals was GREAT!

Damn. I was too young to remember, but good thing those futures turned into Regehr. That trade is god awful.

Crash and Bang Winger
|
August 26, 1987
To Calgary: Brad McCrimmon
To Philadelphia: 1988 3rd (Dominic Roussel) & 1989 1st (Steve Bancroft)
Pretty big price to pay but was McCrimmon worth every penny during his stay in Calgary
While looking up this trade, I noticed this.
Excited: March 8, 1982
To Calgary: Future Considerations
To St. Louis: Kari Eloranta
Boy was I ever happy to see Kari leave. It was always an adventure with him with the puck in the defensive end.
Disappointed: June 3, 1982
To St. Louis: Cash
To Calgary: Kari Eloranta
ARGH.
