Not really. Good luck to the Canucks if they think they can emulate the Bruins as if it was that easy every team would be a carbon copy. The incoming GM will have their work cut out of them with an aging roster saddled with some boat anchor contracts, major question marks in net as they aren't remotely close to becoming a cup contender as they are still on the downswing of being a contender to a rebuild. I can see that team maybe having a one year resurgence but they are still trending down and things will probably get worse before they truly get better. It can't be understated that Gillis really left a big mess out there.

The contracts are a big one. A new GM coming in at first could maybe only do some patchwork, but your not going to see the actual team start to change for another 2 or 3 years when some of the contracts start expiring, and/or are easier to move.
Vancouver will probably make the playoffs next season, there will be an energy with a completely new management team, coaching staff, and everyone will be pumped to rebound from this last season...

Really? And how is that going to stop them from getting steamrolled by the California teams all season?

Expect the Vancouver Canucks to finally name Jim Benning as their new GM later this week. Hiring coach will be next. Trotz high on the list.

That's a good hire for the Canucks. Lets hope he sticks with the fading Bruins agitator philosophy though.

Not sure Trotz would be the right coach for that team.

Yeah, I'm curious if Trotz is able to coach another style with another team makeup.

I'm not sure Benning would hire Trotz, but it is a good hire I think if they're going into transtion-rebuild mode.

Trotz is a good coach but I'm not sure he would bring in the high tempo offensive system that Linden thought they needed to go back to. I think that would be a bad decision for Trotz as that team will get worse before it gets better and there's no guarantee he survives some of the lean years in their future when all those old players are at the back ends of those deals.

He's at least able to work with a bad roster given that he was with the Preds since expansion. Survival would be another matter.

people thought AV was only a defensive coach too
Nashville just hasn't had any good forwards to work with, so they really only had one choice on the system

Vignault was helped in no small part by a roster that featured the Sedins at their offensive peak, Kesler entering his prime producing years, and a bonafide starting goaltender who could play +65 games. Trotz's Canucks are a shell compared to this.

I actually think Torts had them playing the style they needed to as really with the Sedins hurt/slumping where were the goals supposed to come from?

Looks like a good hire.
Have to wonder if this move will improve the Canucks drafting. Benning made his bones as a scout and Buffalo did pretty well at the table while he was in charge of scouting there.

All this management stuff is great, but they still have that gross looking roster with few solid prospects currently, reminds me of the Flames not too long ago. Very curious to see what they do with the roster and the big boys on there.
Benning would be a step in the right direction, but hopefully not too right.

I guess it depends on what the expectations are. If the expectations are that the team is going to turn around and compete for the Cup next season and the following two seasons I think the Canucks have a rude awakening awaiting them. But if the expectations are to retool and make the playoffs next season I think it's a pretty easy job to do. I honestly don't really see the Canucks as being saddled with some boat anchor contracts. How many guys are signed beyond 2 years? And realistically who can the Canucks replace those players with? Looking at capgeek, the Sedins, Burrows, Edler, and Garrison are the only big money guys signed beyond 2 years. I really don't see the Sedins as 50 point players or the Canucks being able to replace them anytime soon with first line players. Burrows and Edler might be boat anchor contracts but I think Edler is very much tradable and I think Burrows will bounce back (will still be overpaid).
The reality is that the Canucks aren't Cup contenders and won't be within the next few years. Do the Canucks owners and fan base expect a quick fix? I'm not sure that is the expectation. To Gillis' credit, I think he has already begun the retool.

I don't really think Edler is a boat anchor, either, and trading him now when his value is non-existent would be silly. 5 million bucks for a sub-30 year old top 4 defenseman is really quite reasonable at this point, and he had a 950 PDO last year, where his PDO prior to this year was 1006.
I see three anchors. Garrison, if he continues to not be able to play defense above a 3rd pairing level, is a boat anchor at 4.6, though he does have the PP to boost his value a bit. The Sedins, at 7M, need to be 60+ point, positive possession players to not be anchors and even then, they're overpaid.

Meh, I don't think the Canucks are going to go straight to rebuild mode but I (Sadly) don't think they're going to devolve into the mad riverboat gamblers that Sutter made us in the final few years of his tenure. I figure they're going to try and take one more kick at the can next season.

Don't you have to when you have the Sedins in year one of four year deals? I imagine they are going to hope that Horvat can graduate and maybe another couple of forwards and that a handful of players have rebound seasons in hopes of gaining a playoff berth.
