Always cheering for the win but this is the one time I wouldn't cry if we get screwed over by the diving team and the refs.

Its embarrassing when people call this a weak draft. Its not as strong as the last one..but to call it a weak draft doesnt do justice to the top 3 players and how close / competitive it is. Ekblad, Bennet and Reinhart all probably would have cracked the top 10 in last years draft.
We've had an awesome season. Worked hard, pulled out wins we were never expected to and never quit. But in this years draft, theres a big difference between the top 3 / top 5 picks and the rest. Theres not much depth. A lot of skinny short meh wingers in the top 30 rankings. But that doesnt mean there isnt anyone special in the top end of the draft.

Flames go down 5-0 and then in the third period, the Flames led by Gaudreau, Monahan and Arnold come back to tie it 5-5. We lose in the shootout.
Something like that.

But either way, hoping for a nice solid game from Gaudreau and Arnold. Doesn't have to be spectacular...but it would be nice to get a moment or two of promise.

That's a good way of putting it. It's game 82, not game 35. You don't have to cheer for a loss to realize a loss is the best scenario for us long term.

Almost no chance the canuck players are playing to win tonight. And they're playing a back up goalie who can't stop a beach ball, based on his play against the oilers last night. So everyone might as well hope for a win, 'cause a loss ain't happening.

That and I lived in Vancouver for 8 years, I don't hate them THAT much.

A close loss would give us a shot at Reinhart or Bennett if the Oilers liking Draisaitl tidbit was true. Ill go with that even though I don't think Dal Colle is much of a drop from the top 3 forwards.

As I have been all year cheering for a good game from the team win or lose but hoping for a loss tonight.
Getting the 4th pick gives us a, slight, better chance at winning the lottery, allows the team to take advantage if one of the top 3 slip and lets us choose between the guys left after the big 3.
Lots of reasons long term to get the win and although every win against the Canucks is enjoyable, I will sacrifice this one tonight for what is best for this team going forward.
Edit: Also much prefer Dal Colle over Draisatl so hope we get 4th and get him rather than getting "stuck" with the German.

There is the chance that a higher team wins the lottery and pushes us to 6th place. About 3-1 chance but it could happen.

I recognize that you are one of the people that would never cheer for a loss, but you make yourself look ignorant when you characterize those of us who are taking a reasonable position to cheer for the long-term as embarrassing.
This game means absolutely nothing. With the potential for one of the consensus 3 to drop to us, this would be one of the few times that the Flames could perhaps draft a star. The people cheering for a loss just have longer term priorities than beating the Canucks in a meaningless game.

Burke pretty much openly said he doesn't like Draisaitl IIRC ... so unless Burkie is throwing a big flash grenade here, I'm pretty sure we won't draft him.
I want 4th because I think there's a possibility that Bennett falls to us at 4. BUF and FLA take Reinhart and Ekblad, then you hope that the Oilers are dumb enough to take Draisaitl ...

Thats what I was thinking. But Burke is sneaky and if anyone would publicly state they dont like a player, only to take them at a spot where the other GMs think Burke has his sights set elsewhere - its him.

There is a big difference between 4th and 5th as I mentioned in my post above and Crumpy added with the effective of getting bumped from 5th to 6th would move us out of the 2nd two guys into the Ritchie/Nylander/Kapenen/Perlini range which is likely another step down after the big 3 and Dal Colle/Draisatl.

Hope Gaudreau scores 3 and we lose 4-3.
