He'd get to play a ton of minutes in all situations (and inevitably be traded to a contender unless the 67's are run by idiots).

I just found my error. Counted wrong, Horak was 20 not 19 on 12/31/2011 so he was eligible to play in the AHL. Flames didn't somehow get around that rule.
Fully agree though. Monahan would benefit from a year in the AHL. That would be the ideal solution.

In MLB some teams have inning limits for young pitchers, once they hit that number of innings pitched they get shut down for the rest of the year.
The Flames should give Monahan a 60 game limit. Tell him in advance that he'll be a healthy scratch for 22 games this year in order to make the transition to the NHL a little easier.

Honestly people on here can be really insensitive of others and the numerous possibilities of why said error might have occurred. You had to make him feel like crap over it time and time again. By the time someone explained how to fix the spelling error everyone had piled on to make him feel even worse. Wouldn't be shocked if he ever posts again.
Nice work. Internet anonymity is just great isn't it. No consequences to how you treat others.

Don't be so dramatic.
I'm not sure how most people make it through life if they take the interwebz so seriously.

Regardless of the player Shawn becomes we'll see Monohan with the Flames for a long time. After all we had Jerome for 15 years!

Also, Horak was drafted out of the Czech League, so the CHL transfer agreement wouldn't have applied to him (this is the same reason Sieloff is in Abbotsford now instead of Windsor). He went to Chilliwack after he was drafted.

He specifically used an example of a maple leafs defenseman. Think it was a defenceman. He's on the flyers now and has never been the same after the first season.
Anyhow... What say you?
Does monohan have the hallmarks of a guy you can build around or will tomorrow dictate his career?
It might be nice to see him play for team Canada. If worst came to worst.
Since you all have a better hockey IQ than me, what do you think?

I wouldn't worry about the spelling error comments I have spelt Monahan wrong a few times and had to go back and correct it. As for Monahan, I think with the right coach and supporting cast the opportunity is there for him to be a franchise player. From comments Feaster and Hartley have made Monahan seems a bit more mature than your average 19 year old. He loves to learn, is confident, and is showing some leadership qualities. Will he be a bust? No way I think he is the real deal!!
