I'd give them a C...
- It is pretty clear management flubbed the Iginla deal by not getting his list of teams in print.
- Bouwmeester deal is a bit underwhelming to me since the pick is quite risky. If the Blues miss the playoffs (seems like a 50/50 chance right now) the Flames end up with a 2014 pick. I think the Blues are a great team, just under achieving right now, and I could easily see them rebound next season and be a top team in the West again (2nd last year). Also, I think there are some similarities between the Blues and last years Kings. It wouldn't surprise me if they go on a run in the playoffs.
- Comeau deal is good, but it still is a very small trade. This deal shouldn't significantly contribute to anyones grade.
- I would have liked to have seen at least one more significant trade, like a Stempniak, Butler, Sarich, Tanguay deal etc.

I agree it is an extremely deep draft this year.. I think it shows that in terms of how many teams were willing to trade their 1st round picks.. which was 2.. and we got them both.

Happy with J-Bow trade. Iginla would have been gone at the end of the year, so his return was decent enough. Really happy Comeau is gone.
I'm cautiously excited about the direction the Flames are moving in. Tons of cap space and 3 first round Picks are huge.

I'm pretty happy with the deals done so far.
Feaster still has time at the end of the season and especially on draft day to move out bodies for picks.

The draft is the next big day as I think these players that are set to become UFA after the next season still have value at the draft and deadline next year.

Disappointed we couldn't get some 2nd or 3rd round draft picks today.

You need two parties to do business, the lack of trades overall should show that the market was soft.

Ladies and gents, we actually have picks and cap space this year! Hopefully he doesn't spend it like that silly GM from Buffalo

Not saying ALL should be gone, but was hoping the roster was far more gutted than it is today....
|
Let's take it one at a time
Sarich - owed 2 million next year. Cheaper options available that can do the same job
Babchuk - because he's terrible
Glencross - NMC and a guy the Flames probably want to keep
Tanguay - Too much term, too much $$$, NMC
Cammy - Too much money next year in a year where the cap is going down
Jackman - Has largely been ineffective in his role this year
Stajan - Even though his play has improved, 3.5 is a lot for a guy like him.
Butler - Young enough to keep

That actually worries me. I don't want to see Roy and Filppula signed at 5+ million per year long term next season!

I'm glad we were able to trade Bouwmeester and Comeau during their best stretches with the Flames. Selling high.

The prase; "Open for business" needs to be removed from NHL GM vocabularies. How do you say that and then come away after trading only Blake Comeau? I wonder if the team really wants to re-sign Stempniak as one would think he would have been fairly sought after given his contract status and play this season.

5 out of 10. Idea to start the rebuild was right, and we got pick 2 firsts, but the prospects are definitely underwhelming. To add, the firsts may as well be busts if Feaster is drafting.

Yeah that's what I see, players on expiring contracts were moved. Players like Cammallari, Stajan, Stempniak, Sarich will be easier moves at the draft and next year's trade deadline.

Happy to see us get a pick out of Comeau but jeez I was expecting way more considering Feaster said were not done, were open for business. Not the fire sale I saw coming.

Well, he did also trade Jarome Iginla and Jay Bouwmeester.
Stempniak still has a year on his deal, so there is plenty of time to move him.
Ditto for Sarich.
