Huska is a very well spoken guy. Liked everything I heard, but hopefully it translates on the ice.

No secret we need some upgrades or a diamond or two in the rough.

Love will be interviewed for an assistant role and Conroy thinks he needs NHL experience before becoming a head coach

Exactly what I was just going to post! Seems very articulate and clear (and Conny alluded to that as well).

And...good news....there WILL be a Captain. Seems that the emphasis on that was ... intentional as to its level of importance, given the last year(s).

Not overly impressed, but I guess we wait and see. He didn't really say anything that blew me away. My biggest concern is they don't double down on the current roster, but it seems it might be the case.

Conroy: Love interviewed well, was there right to the end. Love is confident that he's ready to be an NHL coach, but for GMCC, reflecting on his own experience moving from AHL to NHL as a player, he felt that Love needs a bit of time and experience as an assistant in the NHL before making that jump. He's not saying Love can't do it, only that he didn't feel that it was fair to Love or the team to go in that direction for this hire, at this time.

But Love will definitely be interviewed for Assistant Coach role with the big club.

I came in late so I started it at the beginning, and I'm probably way behind everyone else, but... "powerwashing my stones in the backyard" lol.

Conroy said Love was in the final 4.

Sounds like Huska had a very impressive interview. Very detailed in video, not just of the Flames but what other teams are doing and how the Flames could implement.

Good point. Darryl wouldn't tell you, and Treliving would sometimes say things as if he was managing the crowd.

These guys seem quite genuine which can be a strong quality.

The roster concerns about management "walking it back" with the same roster forget that this isn't their decision. The players have all of the power. It's their decisions that will dictate what the Flames do this offseason.

Will they re-sign Lindholm? If they can, (despite some perceptions of common sense here its a no brainer and you make correlating moves after signing him). But it's not their call. And if I'm reading the room in that presser properly, I'm not so sure Lindholm is all that interested. (Conroy wincing as he said it's a work in progress)

Like serivalli said earlier today, you're guaranteed to not have Lindholm, Hanifin or Toffoli walking into camp with put a new contract.

My guess is their deadline for that decision is draft weekend. I don't believe for 1 second Conroy is going to sit on his hands on this.

I wonder if Huberdeau should be the Captain?

I would be much more comfortable with that than Backlund.

All the talk about taking the pressure off of him, I seriously doubt he’s an option.

In the end it will be interesting to see what Conroy and Huska will do for this team.

Conroy was a bit of a surprise when he was named as "Special Assistant to the GM", and he did pretty much every job management over a decade...but clearly he was groomed for this and was also pretty highly regarded across the rest of the NHL (interviewed for some other GM jobs).

When Huska was hired from Kelowna 9 years ago it was seen as a great hire, and a shrewd move by the Flames. He was a Memorial Cup winning junior coach with a pedigree where many thought he was "Coach in Waiting" in the AHL. I think that Huska was probably actually the first big move Treliving made after being named the Flames GM.

He ended up coming up as as assistant with the Flames and spending years in that role...but another situation where the organization has spent almost a decade grooming him for this role.

I know people will complain that it's "more of the same" but at the same time I always fault this organization for not having a long term plan, and in this case it actually feels like it might be outcome of what was long term planning.

I hope the best for both Huska and Conroy. And already welcome how open and transparent our new management is compared to how it's been in the past.

If Love wants the job, that could be a very strong group working together. They could be a very detailed group and things like 3 on 3 play will be higher up on the priority list.
