No she doesn’t and no he doesn’t.
She doesn’t know what to do so she talks too much but has no rapport with her PBP counterpart so she talks too much and usually gets it wrong. She’s literally committing the #1 error of broadcasting which is don’t talk if you have nothing good to say. She’s like a nervous high schooler on a first date. She just rambles, and rambles and rambles then trails off and doesn’t finish her thought. She constantly makes the wrong read on a play and then doubles down instead of backtracking or correcting herself.
Hrudey knows when to analyze the play and when to add to the broadcast by making the viewer feel comfortable. He’s actually a phenomenal colour guy in his regard.
It’s the hardest job in tv sports, colour. Harder than pbp because it involves breaking down what happened, not just relaying it and describing it like the PBP person does.
I’ve never heard another colour guy/gal who sounded equally uncomfortable in their 50th appearance as they did in their first, and that’s Cassie.
Charlie Simmer sucked and was boring but at least he never sounded like an awkward high school AV club person on their first ever broadcast.

You thoroughly inspected said sandwiches first, correct?

I honestly think the networks want it back to the Gretzky years. Non contact on the elite player who racks up crazy points. The networks love it, and the player becomes the team just like the NBA. The refs can get in on the action to to make sure the right team wins. We can watch the same team win 4 years in a row, it would be amazing, and I won’t watch.

The strangest part of that whole "segment" (and it was one of the weirder ones ever) was that the point Bieksa started with the boat analogy is that the bigger boat has the "right of way". OK...lets take that at face value and apply it to McJesus coming in on Markstrom.
McDavid is 6'1 200lbs
Markstrom is 6'6" 255 lbs
So Markstrom had the right of way......yet the panel, and especially Maclean, took it the other way saying McBlowthezone was in the right as the bigger ship.
Just a dumpster fire of analysis and could not have come to a more incorrect conclusion.
Hilarious.

He used to provide more analysis and was more serious. But now it's mostly jokes, "I know, right?" and yuk yuks
I used to like him doing the colour. Not anymore. But I do like him in the studio doing analysis in the intermissions. I think he is one of the best there.

Can’t stand Cassie at the best of times but last night was worse than normal. I always feel like she tries way too hard to add colour through out the game and doesn’t allow for enough flow for her play by play partner. She also always seems to try and highlight the good of the opponent from what I have noticed in her years doing Flames games and I don’t know if this is almost out of an attempt to not show bias due to her relationship ties to the Flames but it’s maddening when even when the flames are the HOME team all we hear about is the opponent all game long when she is doing colour.

Man, I love reading the ATL. The hate that Oiler fans have for both Tkachuk and "Kneeordano" is hilarious. Just living rent free in their heads forever. Also looks like they have a new hatred for Lindholm as well now. I love it.
And it's cute that they call Gaudreau a cherry picker. I mean, have they ever actually watched their team's captain play? So funny.

I laughed so hard when they called Johnny out for cherry picking!! That’s their main offensive play, it’s a GG special!

Yep, no question that was a high stick
No question that was offside
No question the Oilers outplayed Calgary in the first
No question that’s a penalty
Take a drink every time she says “no question!”

Is McDavid's 5 minute shift worth either a new banner at Rogers or perhaps a Sportsnet special?

Gladly, some of us disagree. Cassie is a breather of fresh air compared to the majority of the talking heads.

Tony Romo is unfair IMO because football is way, way easier to do colour with quick plays, tons of dead time and a long play clock.
It’s perfect for quick situational and formation based comments. His strength being pre play formation analysis. There is no hockey equivalent to that.
His biggest downside of course, is that he talks too much and it often runs into the PBP after the ball is snapped, but he’s so good, I’ll forgive him that bad habit.
It’s hard to find any nhl broadcaster, studio guy, etc who give good analysis. It’s so hard and requires so much prep work in conjunction with great production crew.
We all know SN has none of this.
Even on the panel, Hrudey used to be way, way better with all these fancy video breakdowns of little things the average viewer or even knowledgeable viewer would almost never pick up on. I’m talking 10 or 15 years ago, whenever it was he first started on HNIC.
But that was when he did a quick 2 minute segment once a week. Now that he talks for like 5 hours a week on the panel, plus colour for the flames, his job is infinitely harder and we all know SN gives him zero behind the scenes support because they fired everyone.

Romo is fantastic. He brings up very detailed, high level analyses, and presents them so casually and easily, that anyone can follow them and learn something.
John Madden was great at that too.

Don’t see that at all but at least someone didn’t have to watch the game with the volume at 5. I wish they gave the option to switch to the radio commentators but it’s only 2021 lol.

That was incredibly bad and was I was actually hoping to forget that. SN is such garbage at times and bits like that are cringe worthy lol!
