That's how you build a proper organizational culture of trust and how agents and players on other teams notice that and remember that in the future when considering the Flames as a destination.

Feaster and Treliving tried to do this too. Didn't work at all. Problem is that players have very very short memories, if any at all.

I think the counterpoint is that the plan should be the plan regardless.
Flames are an easy out for any team that faces them in the playoffs. So why change the plan for that when that top ten pick could land tou a bonafide difference maker?

I wouldn't be opposed to that, though the other side of the argument is either we finish 9th, or we draft another Honzek, or Baertschi, or maybe at best, a Bennett. All due respect to Bennett, he way underperformed compared to where he was drafted, at least as a flame. Great in the playoffs, but certainly not elite.

With average goaltending, we are drafting top 3. This team is awful. You can't even deny it. Lowest scoring team in the league and no 1st liners.
The Sharks and Blackhawks have more raw talent than us. We don't have a Bedard or Celebrini.

K8nd of ironic if you think about it, considering he vetoed a move to the Flames earlier when in Toronto...

Should have just told him too bad, pick 2 teams you're moving.
Aging asset that we can get futures for? Absolutely should have taken it.

How do you do that?
He had a full ntc. “Too bad” doesn’t work

How do you do that?
He has a full NMC so if he says no then he's not going, and you're just stuck paying $7M to a guy you pissed off for no reason.
Not shopping Andersson is the mistake (going back to last draft IMO), but if in the end Kadri refused to waive his NMC then there isn't much you can do.
Now my worry is he might have waived to go to Colorado but the team didn't even approach him about it, but Royle and Dissentowner have said that's not the case and he wouldn't have went to Colorado anyways.
