probably because Sherman is in the process of bending Feaster over behind the shed in a last ditch effort for Feaster to salvage anything.

Their GM held a press conference announcing to the world they were matching. I can't see any scenario where the NHL wouldn't consider that as binding on the Avs.

LOL...Press conference does not equal a signed document.

Avs walk away with Dubinsky, top 5 pick and a third rounder for O'Reilly which has got to be near the value they were asking via trade.

This is exactly what I would do if I was the AVs GM
What is the order of waiver pick up if AVs DON'T match?

It might... hell, maybe it should but that's for Ken King and Murray Edwards to decide. Hope we hear from Feaster today.

LOL, what an awful weekend for me to be making my first trip down to Calgary in almost 3 years, we're leaving this afternoon. Can't think of a more depressing day to be in a town full of Flames fans after everything that's happened in the last 18hrs.
And the worst part of it all, I didn't even realize we don't play tonight OR Saturday night! Was dying to sit at a pub full of fellow Flames fans for a change & watch a game, been years. Rabble rabble!

Keep telling yourself that if it makes you feel better.
The Avs have already made it clear they think O'Reilly is worth a hell of a lot more than they are getting, Moving two or three spots up the draft chart isn't changing that.

Ryan O'Reilly would have been a fabulous addition to our team. Baertschi, Backlund, Brodie, O'Reilly and Horak is a damn good young core to build from, especially since our drafting has been subpar at best in recent memory.
The Flames as an organization needs to look in a mirror, but don't look to hard. They're trying to accomplish a youth movement while still making the team competitive - a gradual transition that is a gamble but can pay off big time.
I don't believe Feaster should be fired from this. There was no discussion about this yesterday from any of these whistleblowers yesterday - and I imagine the whole situation of O'Reilly on waivers was due to misinformed advice among the Flames / Avalanche / NHL / agents. Feaster just happens to be the scapegoat in all of this IMO.
|
Calgary was the only team to sign an offersheet for ROR. Feaster was the custodian for the Flames in that process. Knowing the rules is kind of a big part of his role.
He is ultimately responsible and accountable for the decision.

I don't think that's indicative of anything. Are GMs always easy to get a hold of? Wouldn't Feaster be flying back to Calgary anyway?

One thing I have to ask, would this thread exist if the Flames were 12-3-4 instead of 7-8-4?

The previous CBA's wording is in effect for the new CBA according to the MOU though. The only difference is that they've added an exemption for signing RFAs you have the rights to.
Calgary would have to argue that the exemption applies to anyone's RFA and not just the ones you own the rights to and that's a shaky argument IMO, especially given the illustration in the MOU which shows how an exemption can be transferred via a trade of the RFA. There'd be no need for that illustration if all RFAs were exempt from rule 13.23.

Since when is an NHL franchise a public company? And even if it was, business judgment often leads to bypassing opportunities that would generate maximum short term revenue for the sake of stronger long term results.

Yes? This thread is everything to do with a bad GM move and nothing to do with record.
