I concede that both Sutter's contributed to it but he was the coach on record who couldn't get everyone pulling on the same rope. End of story.
Doesn't mean he sucks (obviously he is an awesome junior coach and I still like him a lot as a coach)....just means he sucked here.

This is awesome. I never thought I'd see the day you defend the Flames letting Sutter walk.
Estrada can continue to swoop to Brent's defense all he wants. Guy isn't even coaching an NHL team right now.

Yet you are giving Sutter credit for the team getting 90+ points, when the best player on the team was Iginla.
Iginla definitely wins any kind of "power struggle" if he still managed to pot 30+ goals for each of Brent's seasons while completely ignoring him.

I still believe that the biggest obstacle during Brent's tenure was Iginla and Brent ultimately lost that battle. Since Iginla's last great season under Brent his career has nosedived and it's telling of how hard it was for Brent to try and win when his best forward and captain was on a steep decline that everyone could see except Flames management and ownership.

I thought that bolded part was part of it, I thought the biggest obstacle was that Brent couldn't get the players on his side because he was too abrasive. I look back and I can still see the whole team at the bench looking disconnected with tails between their legs while Brent had that scowly angry look (...as if they failed him.. again). Not only that Brent kept focusing breakdowns, failures to the point that it seemed like he was micro managing, that likely had players at times feeling deflated and discouraged. Not to rehash but some of his defensive pairings were like sticking a square peg in a round hole.

They probably offered Tlusty for Backlund.. in which I hope Calgary has no interest in.
If you take out Tlusty's anomaly of year in which he played with E. Staal and Alexander Semin during the shortened season then his career PPG average is actually below that of Backlund. In addition to that he is not as good defensively and plays primarily as a left winger.
Victor Rask is probably the only prospect in the system worth even discussing. Ryan Murphy and ELias Lindholm won't be moved..

Said the Hurricanes want a #3C and a puck-moving D. Dreger didn't say one way or the other that the Backlund offer also included an offer for a D, but that kind of package might make things more intriguing.

Didn't Calgary have Ryan Murphy high on their draft list in 2011, higher than Baertschi at one point? If Carolina's interested, I'm sure Feaster is interested in Murphy.

Babcock is the best coach in the NHL.

Backlund + Wideman + prospect/pick for Tlusty + Ryan Murphy.
You want a puck moving D for now? Give us a puck moving D for the future. Oh, and we'll take Ruutu if you give us your 1st rounder.

I'm guessing the names being thrown around are Ruutu and Tlusty?

Burke already gave up on Tlusty once.
Id be very surprised to see Tlusty brought into an organization that Burke is apart of.

Lebrun's take on Backlund:
Quote:
The Calgary Flames are listening to offers for 24-year-old center Mikael Backlund, a former first-round pick (24th overall in 2007) that hasn’t found his stride.
The Flames already turned down an offer, a source told ESPN.com, and won’t move him for the sake of it.
Backlund has one more year on his deal at $1.5 million.

Derek Smith in the projected lineup for tomorrow, SOB isn't.
Trade announcement coming, or just a healthy scratch? I didn't see the last game so don't know how SOB played

I believe SOB was a healthy scratch a couple games ago, so I wouldn't count on it.
Although we are apparently shopping him, so who knows.

I wouldn't mind adding Victor Rask to our prospect pool.

I think the Flames want a player 21-26 for Backlund and not a prospect. They might take a bad contract and top prospect though ?
I know the Flames would have to add but would the canes move Skinner? If so what are the Flames adding?
