Honestly I am somewhat in this boat too. The change from Stone to Hamonic isn't worth that price tag, but adding Hamonic to a D core that includes Stone is an outstanding move that makes the Flames both good and deep.

This just addressed our biggest need as a team.

Yes it cost some picks, but those picks are currency and we made a purchase that helps now, as well as going forward.

We had done a great job in the prior 3-4 drafts in stockpiling so we could comfortably be in this position now to make this move.

On paper I rate this trade a B-, good but not great. But when you factor in everything else, I give it an A.

Hamonic on TJ Brodie "he could probably skate from Winnipeg to Calgary and never get tired!"

He also admitted he (Hamonic) wasn't at his best last season and thinks he has a lot more in the tank.

Says he "will pour my heart and soul into the team and into the City".

I expect Hamonic will quickly become a fan favorite with the Flames.

If we can convince either or Kulikov to sign as our #5, I'd be ecstatic.

Happy they got him. Fills a huge whole and the bluelinr is deep for years to come. At goalie and d we have both good starters and prospects.

Am a little concerned about the price. Wish next year's pick was lotto protected and sounds like it will work out to no 2nd rounders for 4 years.

But realistically this team had huge holes in net and on the blueline amd Treliving had to pay to fill them. I am happy he did that and left our prospect base in tact.

The last pieces for me are a cheap 5th dman, a press box forward who can fight (both cheap) and down the road a premiere RW.

The RW is the one piece that will be tough, and not many assets left to get one. Wonder what Kovalchuk will cost

I actually think offense is our biggest need as a team but it does address a need.

$3.5 is too much for a bottom pairing guy. Needs to be closer to 2. With a steady top four go with Kulak-Andersson and shelter their minutes.

This should help Brodie play a more offensive game as well. I am really excited for next year now. If Ferland can keep it up with the top line and Smith can give us average goaltending we should be a tough team to play.

Watching Hamonic's fights in those clips, it looks like he's a handful. Most guys were tying him up and just trying not to let him get any clean shots. I saw fear in their eyes.

The thing that we have to realize now is that Hamonic might be motivated more to play for a good team. Amazingly, the Flames are now that good team.

Man, I love this trade. Treliving is a terrific GM. Go out and sign Franson or Kulikov and Stone and I'll be so happy.

This is a great time to trade draft picks. The team has two core players over 27, and only one over 30. Second round picks and back half 1sts can become good players, but they take time. Johnny Gaudreau and Sean Monahan are ready now. Mikael Backlund is ready now. Mark Giordano is ready now.

The Calgary Flames last year had one of the best statistical defense pairings and one of the five best 200 foot lines in all of hockey. They have elite players in the early stages of their careers.

They play in a division with Connor McDavid. They needed Hamonic more than they needed a bottom half 1st round pick and a couple 2nds.
