Colbert is still awesome though.

I think you've got that backwards. The Stephen Colbert character is pretty much tapped out in my opinion, but the Daily Show and especially Jon Stewart are still awesome.

I guess I am in the minority, but does HD really offer that better experience watching either show or any show like that?

I worked out an ingenious method of downloading a daily show torrent, converting it to itunes format and syncing to my iphone each morning all without even clicking a single button. after all that I realize there aren't nightly torrents of the show released.
So I went to itunes to do it the proper way. I purchased a multi-pass (16 episodes for $10). It started downloading every episode since mid 2008. When I looked at my bill it says that I have been charged for all of them. Currently in talks with iTunes on how to deal with the situation. Still don't have the new shows ... pretty annoying.

Really? I like them all but John Oliver. And even that, the "correspondents" are a minor part of the show. The video clips and "news" items are awesome. But what really, really, really make the show is the interviews.
But to address mykalberta's point... given that I rarely watch the show from beginning to end and usually just listening from the kitchen table where I am either eating, doing paperwork or surfing CP on my laptop... I don't think the HD adds much of anything. Sports and action movies are where HD shines.... political discussions not so much.

I also agree that talk shows do not need to be in HD unless hosted by the likes of Salma Hayek or Jordana Brewster. Sports or perhaps some kind of scuba/extreme sports are where the difference is made.
I agree with the Daily show correspondents being weak but not John Oliver. He still cracks me up.
Stewart: John, does it hurt when your empire dies?
Oliver: A little... at first. Then you start getting used to it.
Colbert is a genius himself but he or at least his show is not as strong as the Daily show.

Wyatt Cynac (or however you spell it) is starting to become a very solid contributor. his last piece on the whole "negro" issue was gold, especially when he called it the marijuana of racial slurs at the end

Colbert treats Hannity like a prostitute:

Sean Hannity joins Stephen for a heavily edited interview to talk about James O'Keefe's deceptive ACORN videos.

Watch both shows anytime they are on. When they go on their breaks I have withdrawal.

Oh man for You daily show and report fans, Tuesdays episodes had to be some of the best ever. Stewart had Seinfield as a guest and they both just went after Glenn Beck. I have not laughed as hard as I did over Colbert talking about Becks new sponsor as I have in years.

I went to a taping a couple weeks ago of the Daily Show. It was pretty fun, but I think going to a taping is a do it once sort of thing. I recommend it if you can get to New York easily (Hurray for Chinatown buses and Amtrak).
But as someone else said here, you are not alone in Canada getting no HD. I'm in DC, and Comcast here doesn't provide a Comedy Central HD feed.
Even worse is they don't even provide the standard 1 HD feed as part of NHL Center Ice, so the only HD game I've seen of the Flames this year was that Chicago debacle.
I wish I could get DirecTV in my building, but alas.

I went once, it was a blast. But just like most shows i am assuming, they give more tickets then there are spots, plus, people who didnt get in other days get in before you do, so get their early as heck!

Yeah, my wife and I got there at 2pm and a line was just beginning to form. They didn't let us in until 5.
Lots of waiting, worth doing once for each show (I'll go back for Colbert, and if Conan comes back to New York, I'll go to his new show), but I wouldn't likely go again.
I am going to put my name in this August for the SNL lotto though, because that would be awesome, independent of what you think SNL has become.

Yes, that was pretty funny. I'm not a huge Jon Stewart fan, but that show was one of the better ones I've seen.

I still can't tell if the majority of his ratings come from people who actually believe the crap that he spews, or outraged liberals.
