Another good point.

Say you trade for a guy like Andersen or Kuemper, and he has a really good season or two as a starter, meanwhile Gillies is tearing up the AHL and the rules for the expansion draft make it so he needs to be protected. All of a sudden you risk losing either your solid young NHL starter (and the assets you spent to acquire him) or your top notch goalie prospect of the future.

That would sting.

^Just a couple of "good" goalies who put up great numbers on a team with amazing defense. But put them into a system with poor defense and the goalie won't look too hot.

Grubauer seems like he will be a good goalie as well but that's too Edmontony for me. Plus Washington would charge us a butt-load.

I think Bishop is the best of the bunch. If the Lightning have cap trouble (sign stamkos), there would be a chance.

I went with Reimer because he's good enough, he could probably be had on a good deal and he wouldn't cost assets to acquire.

with the expansion draft i think we wait till after it to acquire the big name goalie or else we can lose them or gillies to the expansion team. I would just sign reimer as a filler

Call me crazy but I'm the first to vote for Enroth.
This guy has been absolutely lights out this season...
And if we're looking for a hidden gem as Conroy hinted at... it might be him.

1. A lot of his bad numbers can simply be chalked up to "Buffalo".
2. He's always had the talent, and at one time was actually highly touted if I recall.
3. Reaching a good age...
4. For those who say he will be exposed on our team, I don't think so... we 'should' have a solid D and I think if that's a problem its more an issue of coaching anyways.

Worst case he becomes our backup but I think there is something there...

Anderson, Bishop, Reimer in that order although I believe Bishop would be the best pickup short term. Not overly interested in the rest of that list in any capacity outside of backup.

4. I think that term would fit in real well with when we hope Gillies will be ready
Don't forget we won't be worried to lose him in an expansion draft (as opposed to Gilles)

My first choice is Andersen. Given his acquisition cost compared to Reimer's, I'd be fine with James as well.

I wonder if the Avs would move Varlamov or Pickard? Either would be nice.

After Andersson, I'd say Neuvirth is definitely up there, depending on his acquisition cost. Neuvirth is always at least serviceable and he is still fairly young. But he is a pending UFA next year, which carries quite a bit of risk.

Bishop is good, but he's too old, expensive, and risky (contract) for the Flames.

Matt Murray is another strong option, but he's probably very expensive. This would be pure long-term.

The importance of goaltending cannot be understated. I don't think Ward, Rheimer, and other UFAs are worth the long and expensive contracts that they are likely to obtain. I would rather pay a ton for good goaltending than get average goaltending for low cost/free.

If Varlamov is truly available, he'd be one of my top choices as well.

I hope they could find a way to pry Scott Darling out of Chicago. I've really liked what I've seen from him in the games he has played.

When people suggest Bishop, are they meaning to say that we sign Ramo for a year, then Bishop the next year? Or are they suggesting that we trade for UFA Bishop and hope to re-sign him?

The first seems like a pretty good option, and the second seems like an awful option.
