Yes, because the only options are apparently trashing the home team and believing they can do no wrong.
You know, no such thing as a balanced perspective.

And where's that perspective going to come from? As has been said the cast is already heavily weighted with company men. They politely turfed the one guy that told things like it is.

Again, you're a little bit confused.
Enjoying Flames hockey does not equal being a "homer", that would be when you essentially believe they can do no wrong. There are guys that obviously enjoy the team but aren't shy of being critical and questioning decisions and players. Pinder is one of those guys. He obviously enjoys Calgary, but hasn't shied away from expressing an opinion against the club.
There is also the opposite you need to be wary of: Fan 590. Everyone on that station is obviously Toronto-centric (as 960 is Calgary centric) but most of them TRASH Toronto.
You either have to have guys that have balance, or you have to have an equal share of homers and haters. Having Walker on mornings was rough because Warrener and Boomer are both middle-ground guys. That said, I loved Walker, but for hockey talk, I prefer Pinder.

There's a difference between a 'homer' and a 'company man'. If you don't know the difference then it is you that is confused.

You're right.
Loads of difference between someone who thinks the team can do no wrong because they love the team and someone who thinks the team can do no wrong because they're a suck up. All those guys must be suck ups because they just want to further their careers, none of then probably like the flames anyway, right?
Considering we're talking about radio personalities and how they talk about the team (not their motivation for why they hold the opinions they do) I kind of get the feeling you're just into arguing semantics without anything to substantiate your claim.
But keep inventing something to argue about if you'd like.
Point is, to stay on topic (and not concern ourselves with semantics), Pinder is a good hockey guy. He's knowledgable, enjoys the team, and is fairly objective in his views. He doesn't have the same edge that Walker does, but Walker was a gem, so you're not just going to go and replace him that easily. Pinder was easily the best choice out of the guys who were on the "roster" so-to-speak, so I'm pretty happy with the decision.

I agree that we should not sidetrack but you need to step up your arguments if you are going to start them. Since when did criticizing the home team mean that you don't like them? Are you trying to say Mike Rogers never liked the Flames anyway because he was openly critical of them at times and Kerr sucks things up because he's a fan? Being a fan doesn't mean you have to wear goggles and believe it or not many fans don't want their media treating them like kids with watered down company drivel. Now that is settled back to Pinder.

Again, you're arguing with yourself. I'll leave you to it.

Good move! I listen every morning and loved the boomer walker schtick. I was very worried they were going to give Lou the job. He is brutal in that role. Pinder seems knowledgeable has some wit.
Now, if they can get Leslie off the PM show, they will be set. Steinberg is very good. All leslie does is try to argue with him by talking over him, but he is void of original thought and cant back up anything with stats and facts.

I could care less if he is a homer or if he bashes the team when they deserve it. What drives me nuts is when they openly cheer for another team. I would personally like to drive KK to Moose Jaw AND LEAVE HIM THERE, everytime he brings up Rider crap. Pinder being a native Calgarian is already starting ahead of most at 960

Yeah he is much more suited for commentary in between periods/for short segments.
Listening to him last night as the color guy was painful. I suspected it would be that way as the pace of things is so much different than what he needs as color guy compared to his pbp experience. I actually didnt mind him as a pbp guy, though far from my favorite, but color is a different gig entirely. Hopefully he grows into the role, but i have serious doiubts that happens....and thats not his fault, it is a difficult thing to master.

I like a commentator who is a fan of the team. It means he brings passion to his work and can know the team well.
Peter Loubardias is a Flames man, IMO, and while some might not like him, he calls the game with enthusiasm and knowledge about the team. I like that. If Pinder brings a pro-Flames bias to a Flames fan-targeted telecast, I see nothing wrong with it.
I believe there is far more interest in our sport if there are more Rick Jeanneret's of the hockey commentating world. Guys like that take the ball and run with it. There's a reason he's in the Hockey Hall of Fame, and it's not because of his objectivity.
Conversely, guys who hate teams are way more intolerable. Glenn Healey and Ray Ferraro are two blockheads that piss me off royally.

The thing I don't understand about Leslie is the point he's trying to make when he starts arguments. He rarely expresses what he's actually thinking, it's more of a "YEAH BUT WHAT IF IT'S NOT" response to anything Patty says. I have no problem with disagreements, god knows Patty needs someone around to be a little more critical, but Leslie needs to actually go into thought and express himself instead of just one line comments.
