Fitness testing was held today for prospects attending the young stars tournament was it not?. Its just a guess but he could have failed his physical test.
Keith Tkachuk was suspended by St. Louis once for failing his physical test.

I thought his twitter handle was @howsefire but it doesn't seem to exist anymore. Wonder what happened, seriously hoped he made it further. Best of Luck in future endeavours Ryan.

Sounds like he's done with the Flames. Kerr also points out the Flames prospects have gotten a lot of better prospects since Howse joined the Flames organization.
I wonder if the Flames have actually heard from him or his agent?
Hopefully this isn't a much more serious personal situation.
Considering that Howse's replacement for the Pencticton tournament was announced yesterday, I think the Flames were given some warning that Howse wouldn't report.

Reading through some online articles on Howse it sounds like he has a history of poor nutrition and conditioning issues. Perhaps the summer got away from him and he knew he wasn't going to meet expectations.

And in 2 years at least 20 others have passed him on the Flames prospect depth chart. Howse saw the writing on the wall and took the nearest exit.

Could be, .... it was only a couple years ago some here on CP were touting Mitch Wahl and Howse as 2nd or possibly 1st line future Flame players.

Bit disappointing to hear. Was still rooting for the kid to find a way to make it. Fact is though he has definitely been replaced the last two years by better prospects.

My guess is this is the issue.
He's 22. Has 1 point in 20 games in the AHL last year. When you show up to camp and now dozens of kids who are younger than you have passed you, you begin to see your future with the club. Probably goes from a situation where Flames management is eager to have you there and paying all sorts of attention, to one where they akwardly greet you with a "oh...you're here again".
Best of luck Ryan Howse. That leaves us with Ortio as our only hope of becomming an NHL player from the 2009 draft.
Interesting how Horak was, at the time of the trade, the key part of Tom deal. He was brought in because of his time playing with Howse in junior. Horak is now an NHLer, while another career is likely a wash.
