Bob McKenzie seems to think they are buying out Bryz:

Bob McKenzie@TSNBobMcKenzie2m
PHI will now negotiate a deal with Streit. Have to believe compliance buyouts are in the works for Bryzgalov and Briere to free up cap space

So the rumour was that Briere would be bought out.. that would give them 6.5 in cap space and some wiggle room.

If Streit = Prongers contract then they are actually 4.5 under the cap?

Visnovksy-Hamonic
Martinek-Macdonald
Strait-Donovan
Carkner-Reinhart
Hickey-de Haan

I can see the log jam at defense, a lot of good young players and some like de Haan with high upside trying to over come injury problems and make the big team. Donovan had a stellar year in the AHL and Strait looked great for them down the stretch and into the Pens series..

The Isles have a very strick internal budget. The only player they have averaging more than 5 mil/year is Tavares. Streit probably asked for a raise, the Isle said no. They moved his rights.

Bryzgalov: he serves as a warning to every franchise and their fans about what happens when an owner shows a personal interest in player personnel.

That's an ownership signing right there and snider is going to have to pay for it himself.

It counts against the cap, but the Flyers can exceed the cap by pronger's cap hit due to the fact he is injured.

I wonder if Wang will open the wallet when they move to Brooklyn?

As for Streit, the Isles did offer him a raise, but it has been noted that he wants at least $5 million.

I checked out Bryz's payout via the CapGeek payout caculator. Mother of God:

Quote:
Ilya Bryzgalov is 32 years old on the buyout date of June 15, 2013, setting the buyout ratio at 2/3 and the total buyout cost at $23,000,000 spread over 14 years. His contract was originally valued at $51,000,000 beginning in 2011 and ending in 2020, with $34,500,000 remaining from the buyout year forward. The following is a season-by-season breakdown of the buyout.
2013-14: -$690,476
2014-15: $1,309,524
2015-16: $1,309,524
2016-17: $1,809,524
2017-18: $1,809,524
2018-19: $5,059,524
2019-20: $6,059,524
2020-21: $1,642,857
2021-22: $1,642,857
2022-23: $1,642,857
2023-24: $1,642,857
2024-25: $1,642,857
2025-26: $1,642,857
2026-27: $1,642,857

He's a UFA as of 2020, so I don't fully understand why he is paid out until 2027.

Well yeah we know it was his mistake but it's not like every owner in the league is willing to pay players that much not to play for them after only one season into the contract as even the Rangers may keep going with Richards.

The thought of that buyout is just horrendous.

Wants a four year deal? maybe two years too high is he is asking for 5 million.

Darren Dreger ‏@DarrenDreger 5m
Streit's agent, Pat Brisson will begin negotiations with Paul Holmgren today. A 4 year deal is the target.

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie 5m
Sorry, meant to say $4M to $5M range that Streit will be looking for. He was making $4.1M per year on his expiring contract.

I beleieve your looking at cap hit. When you buy someone out, you pay half of the cap hit for twice the years. This isn't relevant this year due to the amnesty. Bryz would have no cap hit if bought out this season or next.

If you buy someone out, the player just received 2/3 of the salary remaining.

Bryzgalov is the worst starter in the NHL, and will hamstring that organization for another 6 years. Awful.

They absolutely need to buy him out, more than briere in my opinion. He could be the number 1 buyout candidate in the NHL besides dipietro, off the top of my head.

Spread out over twice the length of time left on the SPC IIRC.

http://www.capgeek.com/faq/how-do-buyouts-work

HOW DO BUYOUTS WORK?

Teams are entitled to buy out player contracts for a portion of the remaining value of the contract — paid over a period of twice the remaining length of the contract. Following are the buyout amounts:

Younger than age 26 at the time of buyout, 1/3 the remaining value
Age 26 or older at the time of the buyout, 2/3 the remaining value

When a player is bought out, the team still takes a cap hit for the player over a period of twice the remaining length of the contract. The amount of the cap hit (by year) is determined as follows:

Take the actual salary due for each remaining year
Take the Averaged Player Salary (cap hit) for the current contract
Calculate the buyout amount (as described above)
Spread the buy-out amount evenly over twice the remaining years of the contract
Take the number in No. 1 and subtract the number in No. 4. This is the "buyout savings."
Take the cap hit from No. 2 and subtract the buyout savings from No. 5.
This calculation is done for each year, meaning the buyout cap hit is not necessarily the same for all years. It can even be negative, meaning a team can receive a credit.

NOTE: During the ordinary course buyout periods in June 2013 and June 2014, teams will be permitted two compliance buyouts. Compliance buyouts follow the same formula as ordinary-course buyouts but do not count against the cap. For one season following a compliance buyout, the player is prohibited from rejoining the team that bought him out.

I don't think there's any chance that the Flyers move Couturier.

That being said, it's pretty funny how they're in cap trouble, and next summer, Couturier, Brayden Schenn, and Giroux are all RFA's.

Why would they need to buy out Briere? A team like the Islanders or Coyotes would love to have a 6 mil cap hit with only 3 mil in salary to reach the floor. Saves them 3 million dollars that they desperately need

Unless Briere has deteriorated to the point where he isn't worth 2.5 million to a team then I don't see why this isn't an easy fix for the Flyers

Edit: Briere has a cap hit of 6.5 with 3 mil salary this year and 2 next year. So a total of 8 million in savings for a cap floor team. I'm sure they won't need to buy him out unless I am missing something

Why the "prospect"?

Are they at the 50 contract limit?

Long term injury doesnt count in the offseason does it? Prongers cap still counts until the season starts.

Buy out Bryz and Briere.
