I liked the crisis album by Alexisonfire. But always thought City and Colour sucked. Dallas Green was better before he became a whiner. The songs all sound the same, acoustic guitar, soft whiney vocals, rinse and repeat. I don't like depressing music.
Clearly you haven't heard any of the latest album. It has a much more full sound that defiantly swings a little more. Moving away from "whiny acoustic vocals".

This is heartbreaking as I was a huge fan of the band. I think George's screaming was one of the best parts of the band. The shows they put on were amazing and I'm glad I saw them twice last year before they broke up.
It's a shame that Dallas chose his solo career over the band, although looking back at the show I saw in March at the Repbulik, it seemed like Dallas was quite separated from the band. All the other 4 guys were going around in the crowd and talking and joking and Dallas was off in his corner playing with his guitar. The show in December it seemed most people were there to see him and eff the rest of the band. I went to the Meet and Greet and everyone was lined up to see Dallas and the rest of the guys were standing around. I think Wade and George were out "Meeting and Greeting" for a good 5 minutes before anyone went over to talk to them. I actually left the line to see Dallas to go talk to Wade when I saw no one was interested in talking to the rest of the band and he said it was like that for the whole tour.

Yes I have, the addition of drums to a couple of songs sure didnt swing it much. The guy can really sing, but for whatever reason its largely monotone for City and Colour.
That's really too bad, I loved Alexisonfire. I liked a few city and color songs, but overall found Dallas Green a little whiny and repetitive. This is the song that started me on Alexisonfire...
Their self titled album was amazing, Watch Out! had some great songs and a lot of garbage, and then I largely lost interest. I personally preferred the screaming to Dallas Green's vocals. The only song which Green's vocals don't overdo it is No Transitory.
You should check out the Dog's Blood EP. It's pretty much all George and Wade. You hear a little of Dallas on the chorus of Dog's Blood and that's it. Grey and Black as Jet there is no sign of him.

Did you listen to Old Crows/Young Cardinals or Dog's Blood? Because Dog's Blood is the new one and Dallas isn't really on it.

To be fair I said swings more....
It's all relative.

well, im sorry most of you can not appreciate music by these guys. City and Colour is ok and all, but the genre is very limited and a little sappy IMO. City and colour also charges huge amounts for tickets....for what? Alexisonfire was a decent band and appealed to many. If you can't appreciate that, then you don't have much in common with their fans. At first, i agreed with most of the trolls in this thread, saying that george hampered the band. However, it kind of grew on me. It was unique, and thats what was important. The vocalist was not misused-never. Dallas' talent was always the most prevalent, but the screaming provided a different aspect. To you that don't care or say "good", stop trolling; Dallas always had his side project.
It was such a big hit because it mentions Canadian places and people go "I know of/am from/have heard of that place! Yay, Canada!" Canadians are generally excited when they are mentioned on the radio.
Even by other Canadians? I could understand this (though I wouldnt agree with it) if it was an American song, but whats the deal with your neighbour saying, 'hey, I've been to Saskatoon!'?
It was seriously the biggest pile of cheese I'd heard in a while. The idea has been done to death.
Worst band ever. Took an amazing vocalist and misused him in every imaginable way.
More City & Colour now, kthx.
I loved the juxtaposition between the clean voice and the scratchy yelling voice in Alexisonfire. It's was unique. Plus they used a variety of instruments and made complex songs.
City and Color is just washed out, bland, self important crap.
Actually, I've been trying to figure out just what bugs me about City and Color and I had a question. Did Dallas do the majority of song writing for Alexisonfire? Was it truly collaborative? Did one of the other guys do the majority of it? Cause I like Dallas' voice. I liked him in Alexisonfire obviously, mentioned I liked him when he did the track for Neverending White Lights. But City and Color just moves me almost to anger. And I think it's the song writing. The whole tone just seems so pretentious, like he's trying to be overly meaningful, or important. Plus as I've said, the songs seem the same, not only to each other, but other songs from other artists for years and ages previous.
I get the same feeling from City and Color as I do from that one hippie guy we all know who always pulls his guitar out anytime you go to his house, out or go camping with him, just to impress the chicks and show how artisitc he is.
I dunno, probably doesn't make much sense.

I remember the Juno awards in Winnipeg a few years back and they asked Gordon Downey who he was excited to see. They reeled off all the kiddie bands that were there and he says well none of them.....maybe a bit interested to see Alex is on fire. The host says you mean Alexis on fire? Downey's like.....oh they're not Alex is on fire?
Alex is on fire would have been a better.

Ah that EP is much better than the recent garbage that came out from them! Maybe I'm just not a Dallas Green fan...
I am a metal fan, albeit old school, and British stuff, but that was just awkward.
I liked the guitars in Alexisonfire, but George is a terrible vocalist.
I can listen to the hardest of hard black metal/death metal, but George from Alexisonfire is terrible as a "screamer". I hate "screamers". Death metal is hard to listen to, but they aren't screaming. Same with black metal, it is rough, but they aren't screaming like whiney bitches.
Two of my favorites from them! Loved "Happiness By The Kilowatt" as well. The crisis album was the best album they put out in my opinion. Never got to see them live so I'm kind of bummed about that. I wasn't a big fan of George's screaming, it was alright at times and too much at other times. I always thought Alexis would be insane if they dropped the screaming but unfortunately they missed the mark with their newest album when they took out most of the screaming, just didn't have the same guitar sound that the other albums had.
I've been a huge City and Colour fan since the beginning and have seen Dallas on multiple occasions. I know he's not everyone's favorite but I really enjoy it.
