Strasberg needs a team that can hit. He can't go more than 80 pitches and grind out games in the Atlanta heat at this age.
EDIT: or some defense! booted a DP!
quite a sight in this game..
Strasberg on the mound alone.. 50000 in Atlanta doing the chant and chop
---
Edit: game got ugly in a hurry. Nats make another error that made the bad news bears proud. 4-0.

Strasburg with some control issues in the first giving up 3 walks. Down 1-0 after 1 inning.

I'm so excited. The Mariners got Smoak! Him or Montero were two guys I really wanted in a trade. I'm glad that it wasn't the Twins sending us Wilson Ramos, he's nothing compared to these guys.

I'm fine with trading Lee, but this season has been absolutely abysmal for the Mariners.

They had such high expectations from the start with such a solid rotation, but who knows what the heck is wrong with them.
As for the deal, it looks pretty solid I think, for Texas. I'm pretty familiar with Smoak, and he should come around as he develops into a really good player, but the price paid wasn't all that much to get a sure ace. We actually got a pretty nice return for Halladay in comparison.
Can you imagine if the Yanks were to have gotten Lee? May as well have handed them the championship. They were right not dealing Montero though...that guy is going to be a stud.

Perfect game alert.
Reds starting pitcher Travis Wood has a perfect game through 8 innings in Philly vs Doc. Unfortunately, the Reds haven't scored any runs.
The 9th inning is about to start, you can watch the game on both sportsnet East and Ontario.

Agree 100% that Montero is better. I think he's better by a mile. Perhaps NY had reservations of parting with him though. The Yanks are always reluctant to deal their upper level talent and IIRC have offered such guys then pulled back last minute, instead, offering 2nd tier players, much like the Rios/Lincecum rumor a few seasons back. Back to Montero, I don't see the guy as a super prospect, but he's a guy the Yanks will have as their franchise catcher for years to come once Posada retires.

I haven't done the analysis on the trade, but does Seattle get more for Lee than they gave up for him 6 months later?

I heard that Montero was the guy Seattle wanted, but talks with the Yankees then broke down, which prompted talks with Texas.
