Lol I guess you own the site so you can pick on whoever you like?
I never said it’s not a good trade, read all my posts
The statement is they are better TODAY, they lost a NHL player whether you like him or not. But yeah it’s better for the tank
You feel picked on when I respond to abject negativity in all your one liners?
Think you should take a little ownership in that.
If the team was heading to the playoffs these moves would not make the team better today for sure, but we all know they're not so to suggest they're not better when they removed players they are likely to lose for nothing for substantially more is literally trying to find a negative in something that can't possibly be negative.

Who has more value at the deadline next year, Gio or Backlund? Expose Backlund and protect Gio if you can flip him at the deadline?
Teams can protect 7 forwards and 3 defencemen (or alternatively 8 skaters in total, i.e. 4+4). Protecting Gio instead of Backlund isn't an option unless you want to expose two additional forwards.

Yeah the 8 skaters option rarely makes sense - what team is so super deep at D and weak up front where they want to protect less players.
The Calgary Flames have acquired prospect Emil Heineman and a second round pick in the 2022 NHL Draft from Florida in exchange for Sam Bennett and a sixth round pick in the 2022 NHL Draft.
Heineman, a second round pick of the Florida Panthers in 2020, spent the last two seasons with Leksands IF where he has played 54 games scoring seven goals and adding eight assists for 15 points. Emil represented Sweden at the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship.

Ummmm....ok.

I agree with keeping Phillips as hidden as possible if we aren't going to protect him. Otherwise, play him now with as much opportunity as possible, to see if he's worth protecting over Backlund.
I think we can slow the hype train on Phillips for a bit. I was on and wanted to see him called up earlier, but his recent production has tempered my expectations a lot. An intriguing prospect for sure, but after a fast start, he now sits with only 16 points in 22 games.
For a player that small, he needs to be producing offense consistently. Mangiapane and Dube never went through dry spells like this after their rookie year in the AHL. That's probably a good barometer on where Phillips stands.
I don't think we have to worry about Seattle picking Phillips. Surely, the Flames have better assets to choose from.
