Not to entirely derail this thread but this comment reminded me what i read just yesterday about this claim.

http://www.cnn.com/2016/06/12/politi...i-arabia-9-11/

I hope they do release those pages....and we can settle this thing one way or another.

The saudis are still scumbags but if they didnt have anything to do with the single most heinous terror act of alltime, then they shouldnt be dragged through the mud and blood of it.

"Probably none" is a pretty baseless assumption to make.

What's better than weak restrictions? Oh right, no restrictions. Well done.

I find it sad that the US could do something more, as evidenced by their response to the 9/11 attacks. But for these heinous acts they will do absolutely nothing.

Also the plot thickens on the LA guy

http://www.newsday.com/news/nation/j...ind-1.11907256

Howell was accused twice last year of threatening people with a gun, according to court records. Police in Charlestown, Indiana, said the first incident involved Howell's ex-boyfriend in October and the second involved a neighbor four days later.

Ive seen Anderson Cooper cover a lot of awful events on the scene and stay composed, but he is having a tough time covering this one.

Holt to give away AR-15s at fundraiser

Legislator doubles down on door prizes after Orlando shooting

State Rep. Andy Holt announced a campaign fundraiser and turkey shoot last week at which he'd be giving away an AR-15 assault rifle as a "door prize." And after this weekend's mass shooting in Orlando, the deadliest one in the history of the country, in which 49 people were killed by a gunman wielding an AR-15, Holt is doubling down on his door prize, quite literally — he's now going to give away two.

Holt, who was a prime co-sponsor of this session's controversial transgender bathroom bill, posted today on Facebook about the shooting, attacking Muslims, U.S. Rep. Steve Cohen, the media, liberal democrats, and the National Security Administration:

Quote:
I'm furious that I get phone calls from the media asking me if I'm still going to give away an AR-15 at our HogFest, rather than asking me how many extra firearms I'll be handing out to ensure people can protect themselves. After all, it was a bullet that stopped the terrorist. Amazing how so many seem to miss that fact. I'm furious that the NSA continues to spy on ordinary Americans like you and me, yet allows suspected terrorists to easily walk away. I'm furious that I see elected liberal democrats rushing to literally blame Republicans for this tragic attack on the LGBT community. While I am a conservative Christian, my heart literally breaks for these women and men on so many levels. I'm furious that these same liberal democrats rushing to condemn conservative Christians that may disagree with a lifestyle, simultaneously rush to defend a religion that readily hangs and massacres gays and lesbians. Ever been to a country where Muslims are the majority? If you have, you'll find gay men hanging in the streets. This is disgusting in so many ways. The media, our government, it's all literally disgusting.
Holt goes on to request:

Quote:
I want you to arm yourselves and learn to shoot with deadly accuracy should the need arise. Protect your family. Protect yourselves. Protect your friends. Our government has made it quite clear that it is incapable of doing so. At the end of the day, it's your responsibility anyways.
Tennessee Democratic Party chair Mary Mancini has issued a statement condemning Holt:

Quote:
Our hearts are with everyone in Orlando and across the world as we grieve the most-deadly mass shooting in our country’s history. The people who lost their lives were travel agents and doctors, teachers and students. They were brothers, sisters, sons and daughters. There were people enjoying a night out with friends and loved ones.

That said, we’re furious that in the wake of this tragedy, state Rep. Andy Holt is being such a reckless and irresponsible gun owner. Responsible gun owners don’t give away guns without background checks. Responsible gun owners make sure that guns are safely and securely stored to prevent access by children or irresponsible adults. Responsible gun owners don’t put guns in the hands of strangers. Andy Holt doesn’t know if he’s putting the winning raffle ticket in the hands of the next mass shooter.

We’re also furious that when 18% of all hate crimes are committed against the LGBTQ+ community, Andy Holt continues to fan the flames of hatred towards that community by making jokes that demean them and statements that blatantly define them as different, wrong, and scary.

Love will triumph over hate, it always does. But in the meantime, Andy Holt, please, just stop.

Gotta be tough for him. Always liked the guy and certainly gained respect for him when he came out of the closet...

now, with respect to restricting the mag capacity, i never understand the people that defend it by saying "oh well, they'll just take a sec or two to reload anyways"...

that's a sec or two that someone could find cover, a second or two gives someone the chance to weave or dart another 10 feet while the shooter isn't aiming...

IF its not a big deal for a live shooter to swap mags, then why the FCK is it a problem for someone to swap magazines on a freaking gun range?

unbelievable....

So both the Orlando and LA incidents were closet cases?

Circumstantial but it sure seems that most of the hate/violence towards gays seems to come from men who are unable to cope with their own homosexuality.

How can they call it "home grown terrorism", the guys parents are from Afghanistan and quite obviously raised him with extremist Muslim ideals. His father supports the Taliban, quite likely believes in Sharia law. I don't consider that home grown.

Pretending that this kind of thing can't happen at "home" isn't going to help much. He was born and raised in the States. If that isn't "home grown", where's he from?

Where brown people are from....

Apparently if your parents were born somewhere else you're not a real Canadian or an American.

That's pretty much the definition of home grown. It happened in a home in the States.

CNN is now reporting the shooter was a regular at the club for 2-3 years, and used gay dating apps. This could have been an act of self-loathing.

But according to witnesses, Mateen was also a regular at the club and exchanged messages with at least one gay man on a gay dating app.

“It’s the same guy,” Chris Callen, who performs under the name Kristina McLaughlin, told the Canadian Press. “He’s been going to this bar for at least three years.”

“(He’d get) really, really drunk... He couldn’t drink when he was at home—around his wife, or family. His father was really strict... He used to bitch about it,” Smith told the Canadian Press.

This has to change the narrative unfolding in the media that this was an act of culture-fuelled homophobia. It really has to.

Knowing some really insecure people I've dealt with over the years, (who were that way due to "hard line" immigrant parents, you know the type, regardless of religion), I could see this be a case of guy who goes to gay clubs, is gay, then his "president of Afghanistan" father finds out, shames the son about it (including the whole Islam side). Son decides to prove his father wrong by shooting the place up.
