yeah I know Wings fans were already pissed when Nill left Detroit ... by now they must be depressed. Nill has done an amazing job in Dallas.

On the upside I think the Stars can play much better than they have.

Yeah I agree. He has built a really solid team in a short amount of time. But even the biggest Russell supporter has to believe Nill got bent over on that condition. Certainly Calgary makes that trade even without it, don't they? Basically 2 2nd's and a serviceable young defenseman. And I am not a BT fanboy by any stretch.

oh absolutely. If the Flames get the 1st, it's highway robbery for sure.

I'm a big fan of Kris Russell, but even without the possibility of that 2nd rounder becoming a 1st rounder, I would made that trade and I'm pleased BT was able to complete the transaction.

Jokipakka was better than advertised. Looked really good for the Flames. If he was the #7 people thought he was then the trade wouldn't look like robbery. But since Jokipakka even looked solid in a #4 D man spot, this trade looks like a landslide no matter the round of the pick.
Really happy we have "Kevin" on the Flames now.

Dont even know why that condition was in the trade. Its not like if the Stars make the Conference finals, it is because of Russell.

It was more about risk protection on Dallas' end. Think of it as a first they traded, but they got relief from that if he got hurt or they didn't make it far

If three teams are offering 2nds, and one adds a condition like that, they win the bidding war.

People forget how important Russell was when Dallas had all those injuries to their D core late in the season. Without Russell, I wouldn't imagine the stars would finish first in the central and getting an easy first round matchup.

Is there any word on whether Seguin is available for the next game?

A 1st for a top 4 dman (which, so long as he is Demers' partner, Russell is)?
That's usually a very ordinary rental payment. Even the adds were really their versions of Wotherspoon and Agostino, not exactly A prospects.

And the Blues with a softie* six minutes in. 1-0.
Bad goaltending seems to be a theme this year for Flames fans.
*maybe not all that soft since it was deflected, but in slo-mo it looked like Lehtonen just watched it slide in

Nothing "soft" about that goal.

Respectfully disagree. In fact, if you think Russell is worth a first then BT got bent over since the pick had conditions attached to it.
