If you don't make teams pay for taking those penalties they will continue to run around and punish your smaller, skilled guys. The Red Wings were never the toughest team in the league but hey had a scary power play to keep opponents honest.

it looks like he hit Monahan's head to me. I like Regeher and all, but i think it was late and too the head.

Yeah, even in slow mo, it's still a little late, but part of that is Monahan admiring his pass. He's gotta keep his head up a little there.

Looking at that replay again, the hit was definitely late. But it's not dirty in any way.

Looking at the slo mo, the shoulder of Regehr got mostly shoulder on Monahan but maybe a bit of head as well. But Monahan didn't look woozy - just winded. I'm hoping when he pointed at his shoulder he was just asked "where were you hit"?

Based on that gif I'd bet the NHL will say it wasn't principle point of contact. You could argue he got a lot more shoulder than head, and therefore shoulder is principle, but with those guys, who ****ing knows what they'll think.
