I hear he has good speed, which the Flames lack. Also good faceoff stats. I think that's the attraction, plus he's younger than who the Flames currently slot at 4C for the most part (Kirkland and now Morton).

He actually said a couple GMs mentioned they might have thrown in a late round pick to get him. Seems like a great move by Conroy to pick him up for free.

Also, when they make bigger moves, it's nice to have these kind of guys (or the guys already in bottom roles) to throw in if need be. Almost every trade I've seen has a guy like Beecher added in for some reason. "One for one" almost never happens unless you are the Oilers and want to trade Taylor Hall.

I don't think its ever been confirmed, no. if not a broken jaw, given his history we can probably assume concussion.
