You are correct. The Flames don't really need to buy anyone out, or even really trade anyone for that matter.
Assuming the cap will be as projected ($74 million) and the Flames sign:
Two goalies totaling $5 million
Johnny Gaudreau @ $7.5 million
Sean Monahan @ $6.0 million
Joe Colborne @ $1.8 million
Josh Jooris @ $1.0 million
Jakub Nakladal @ $0.9 million
That would give them a roster size of 23 and they'd still have $2 million in cap space.
This includes Raymond and Smid.
Gaudreau - Monahan - Ferland
Colborne - Backlund - Frolik
Bouma - Bennett - Jooris
Bollig - Stajan - Hathaway
Raymond
Brodie - Hamilton
Giordano - Wideman
Smid - Engelland
Wotherspoon - Nakladal
Goalie #1
Goalie #2
Again, roughly $2 million in cap space.
Still, I'm hoping for some changes/upgrades in a few places.
