Treliving should definitely be in on Lucic. I'm sure his first choice would be Vancouver and they could likely offer the most money. Playing with McDavid would be enticing, but then he'd have to live in Edmonton and who knows if they'd be able to turn that mess around. Fit wise, Calgary might make the most sense with the way the core is setup and he is good buddies with Lance Bouma.
But if Lucic thought he was hated as a Bruin, wait till he spurns the Canucks for Edmonton or Calgary, Canuck fans will probably burn his family's home down.

They've gotta sign one of Backes/Lucic/Okposo if we're going to make a run at playoffs next season. The top 6 needs a guy with a track record of producing as we lost Hudler.
All three of those guys would bring more grit too.
If we're drafting 4-6 I hope we pick up Chychrun and can slot him in on the bottom pairing right off the bat.
Goaltending is a crapshoot at this point though... No idea if one of our guys will step up enough to earn it, or if they can afford to pick a good one up. Ortio seems like a capable backup option, but I don't think he can handle more than that yet.

I'd be happy with Okposo, Lucic, or Backes as a signing.
However trading for Mike Hoffman and/or Kevin Hayes would also make sense.

Not sold on Hoffman.. David Jones, though with weaker assist totals, managed to put up two 20 goal seasons back to back and then he settled in to what he is now. Hoffman is more skilled than Jones for sure but he's a bit of a late bloomer at 26 and could become that 4 million dollar anchor if your not careful... Plus being just 180 at 6'1 and also being another left handed center I dont think he'd be worth the flyer... Not with Janko coming up the pipe.
If we throw money at anything this off-season hopefully its towards a proven, big bodied winger that can play the right side AND a goaltending solution... Hopefully

Yeah I think we see a trade to address the RW position short-term, and then it will be addressed long-term via the draft.

I recall Treliving saying that Chychrun won't be NHL ready next year, FWIW

Can Lucic play first line? If so he's pretty much the perfect fit. Lucic, Bouma, Engelland, Ferland would make a good group in the payoffs. Could have grit on every line.

I believe he can, but not on Calgary. No way he's ahead of Gaudreau. But he would instantly give us two deadly lines, which most elite teams have.

I think I'd pay Lucic 8 million per year for 3 years.
There isn't a better fit for him in the league in my opinion. A couple of good young centres, a friend on the team already in Bouma. He could win again on a roster like Calgary's, and maybe more importantly for him, hey could be the key cog in the wheel of a cup winner.
The other benefit is that you don't have to play against him.
From Saturday:

Milan Lucic is dialed in, and that’s dangerous for any team he faces. The Los Angeles Kings forward has 10 points (three goals, seven assists) in an eight-game streak during which he’s earned a plus-11 rating. The Kings have won five of their last six games and taken points in 12 of 14 overall.

2015/2016 Trade Speculation and Rumors v2
I'll be happy if the Flames can grab any one of these players in the offseason from each category:
2016 Draft:
Matthews, Laine, Puljujarvi, Dubois, Tkachuk
Forwards:
Backes, Lucic, Okposo
Goaltending:
Andersen, Elliot, Reimer

Some of the more popular options out there seem a little underwhelming/hyped/going to cost a boatload, for me.
I'd target two buy low players in Elliott and Chaisson, and then let this team grow organically over the course of the next season.
With Chaisson stabalizing RW and Elliott tending goal, I think that the season hinges on moving Wideman, and running with a Jokipakka, Nakladal, Englland 4,5,6.
I wouldn't spend any big money on UFAs.

Chiasson is an interesting one for me. I really thought he was going to become a much more offensive player. He seemed to flat line after the trade. It is too early in his career to call him a reclamation project, but he is the sort of buy-low guy that could do well under the right circumstances. Not sure if that is with the Flames (or any other team), but I have always been interested in him.
However, I am just not sure he has any more upside than a guy like Colborne.

Yeah, Chaisson is the type of buy-low guy that will end up in either Arizona or Nashville and then blossom into a top six forward.

This is actually a really really good breakdown.
Bolded are the ONLY changes I'd make, and they're extremely slight. If your math is right with $3.5 available on LTIR with Smid, those slight adjustments are easily covered.
Really really really possible outcome here that shapes a lethal team going forward.

is the buyout of Raymond included on there? The Flames don't have a compliance buy out do they?

The compliance buy outs are already gone. They were only available the first 2 summers after the lockout.
We did use one of two though, on Shane O'Brien.
