Honest question everyone: What if Sven has a really good game, puts up a few points, and they win? Would anyone be willing to give him credit where it's due?
Sure. I just find the possibility so unlikely.

Well he had a nice game last time he played in the NHL even if it was against the Oilers. He's got skill so there's always that chance he puts up a few points. That said it seems the Canucks media and fans have somewhat unreasonable expectations on him to become an instant difference maker. It would be like the Flames dressing Poirier and us and our media making similar comments.
As has been said his performance will more or less depend on how well the Flames play. If they play like they did in the past few games I don't expect him to be a factor but if they play like they did game 2 he's going to get ample opportunity to put up some points.
Let's take it easy. For sure we want him back asap... don't want him to rush things in case of set backs

I don't think he's close, just closer. Still not really shooting the puck, weak wrist shots, almost shoveling puck.

No. And I say that because it would only be one game.
If he goes out and has a 50+ point season next year then I''ll consider it.
He was a first round pick who was projected to be an offensively contributing player, he has to do that and do it consistently before I'll consider giving him credit.
At this point he should be thanking Brad Treliving every chance he gets for not trading him to the Oilers where he'd have been given everything he wants rather than having to earn it.

If you thought this season would have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.
Sven is acting like Mila Kunis stole his pet chicken. You'd think that someone would have tried teaching him better media skills by now instead of letting him bringing up issues when he's in front of a microphone. It looks like he likes embarassing himself.

I haven't heard the comments, but in Baertschi's defence, the media quite certainly are asking him about the past issues. They want to create those stories, and they usually succeed.

I agree that Sven likely won't be the answer... But I wouldn't take him lightly. In the past, whenever Sven has been put in a top six position in the NHL he's looked good. Just think back to when iginla and Jaybow were traded and then tanguay got hurt. Sven was called up and played top six minutes for almost a month and I'm pretty sure he had an 8 game scoring streak. He hasn't really been in a spot like that in the NHL since then. Of course, the playoffs are a whole different monster compared to no pressure games to round out a season.
Don't get me wrong... I still think the flames will win and I don't expect Sven to dominate the game... But he could provide a spark to the second line on the Canucks.
