Particularly, he saved the game at that point) with a couple solid defensive shifts right in front of our net.
He also had the best forecheck outside of Byron. Nobody hit anyone harder than Glencross on the forecheck last night and he spent more time taking abuse in front of the net than anyone.

I agree that the Flames are pretty much going to be what we saw last night. I just don't see it as negative as most, and not because of the draft positioning....but that helps. Last nights game was fun to watch, the team is exciting when they have the puck and when the other team has it you're just waiting for a big hit. There were flashes of brilliance from our forwards, defenders and goalie and those are the parts to enjoy. Other than Wardo, not many people are expecting much from the Flames in the way of results but if they play every game like they did last night I would be more than happy to watch.

I don't always like Glencross.
But when I do....
It's because he played like he did last night.

Was very impressed with him on that exact play, as it happened right in front of me, and the hit (on a Sedin) threw the pony rider off for the rest of the sequence.

Frak.

I dont mean it as a negative either, it simply is what it is. This team's talent is currently playing in New York or lying on the treatment table.

The Flames were in this game from the first minute until almost the very last minute through sheer grit and determination.

This is pretty much my expectation level of the team, they're likely going to be a bottom 5 team this year, and I expect them to win fewer games than last year for the reasons I bolded by IntenseFan.

Its just all part of a patient and cautious rebuilding process.

He did that play a couple of times. It was nice; heavy hit behind the net on fore check created a chance or puck possession in offensive zone.

IMO he was pretty good

ya, I didn't think you sounded negative at all. I'm just saying that I really enjoyed the game and I hope every game is like that...results be damned! I hope that the younger guys on the team start to grow and mature and learn from their mistakes. As long as the talent from those few kids is a bit better at the end of the year than I'll be happy.

I heard no complaints from the crowd in my section. Not sure how anyone could come away from last night feeling they did not get entertainment value.

Backlund did not impress me at all. Game 2 gets him a pass, but if that's indicative of where he's at, then he's taken a step back. We'll see.

Wideman....where do I start? I was prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt, he was hurt last year and I thought, ok he's healthy, he's got that big contract, surely his pride will kick in and he'll earn it... He's making that opinion look a bit silly right now. I think the best thing for everyone is to get him a new team, I don't think he wants to play in Calgary.

The good? Lots; Johnny Hockey made me smile a few times, and flinch a couple others when I thought he was gong to get crushed. Gio, Brodie and Russell all were what I expected, which is solid, Gio was awesome as usual. Upfront I thought the 4th line was really good all night, and Hudler stood out too.

I'm willing to give Backlund a pass for at least a couple of games. He missed almost all of pre-season and only started skating again last week. He's bound to be rusty.

JG was on the first power play unit that played the first minute of the initial 5 on 4 PP that created the 5 on 3. Not really much option to keep him out there unless he wanted to burn a time out.

Given he was rolling to Monahan and Hudler for the 5 on 3, I think he made the right call.

JG looked great offensively, but I cringed on his one shift inside our zone when he literally passed to no one and caused 2 shots on Hiller because of his turnovers... Tanguay-esque.
