Overrated - 2 broke chicks. Actually just saw it for about 5 minutes for the first time last night, and did not like.

Underrated - Men behaving badly. Even though I don't like anything Rob Schneider has done since then.

Never understood the appeal of Monty Python. I didn't find any of it funny at all. I was watching it with some buddies back in high school, and they would laugh so hard at certain parts (ie. the black knight part, of the stupid shrubbery joke), and I'd just be sitting there thinking, wow this is some cheesy stuff.

I read on IGN awhile ago that the ALF ending was supposed to be a cliff-hanger for the next episode, not the end to the series, but they cancelled it so that was that.

The first season of that show was brilliant, then Justine Bateman and Ron Elard left the show and it basically became the Rob Schnieder half our and was quickly canceled.

I just recently went through Heroes for the first time. Surprising as I have always been a comic/superhero fan that I never watched it before. I loved it. Although If it had ended after the 3rd season it would have been perfect. The 4th season is not very good compared to the rest. But overall it was a fun show.

Horribly underrated-the Extras.

Every episode had a famous guest star-from DeNiro to Harry Potter to David Bowie.
Here's Harry potter trying to prove he's a real grownup.

Underrated - Sons Of Anarchy

At least I think it must be, because I never heard of the darn show until about a week ago, and it's been on for 4 years now.

Just watched the first three seasons non stop for the last week, thought it was great. Can't wait to watch season 4 ASAP.

Season 4 was the best of the series IMO.

I haven't seen one new episode (although I did watch the entire series beforehand).
It's all pretty subjective, but I'm going to make a case for Futurama not being overrated. I'm not going to go the other way and claim it's underrated, either. But it deserves the praise it gets.
1: it's always compared to the Simpsons, but its brand of humour and storytelling style is completely different. There's a lot of 'future as satire of our own time' humour that can be hit and miss, but when the writers are less interested in satire and more interested in storytelling and thought-provoking ideas, they do something that no other animated show out there is doing. At its best, it really takes advantage of all the possibilities that its science-fiction environment allows it, including parellel universes, time travel, immortality, armageddon, and all the moral and existential ramifications that these things create, yet they aren't above milking a catch-phrase or sight-gag or one-liner when the opportunity comes up.
2: It's capable of more emotional impact than any other animated show. Granted, the Seth McFarlane shows are far too cynical to care about emotional content and the Simpsons used up every possible angle already. But there are at least a half dozen episodes out there that can be bring a tear to my eye (and that's not counting Jurassic Bark making me cry like a little girl). Even at its most touching, the Simpsons hasn't gotten more than a 'aww, that's sweet' sort of reaction from me.
3: If you don't think Scruffy, Hermes, Calculon, Robot Devil, Hedonismbot, Elzar, Richard Nixon's head, Morbo and Linda, the Omicronians, the globetrotters, the neutral planet, the robot mafia, and hypnotoad all make up the best supporting cast of any animated show, well sir we'll have to disagree.
4: The new season has had some of the best episodes in the history of the show. Not every episode (there's at least a couple complete stinkers), but even a casual fan of the show needs to check out Lethal Inspection, Late Phillip J Fry (if you choose just one of the new season to watch, make it this one), Prisoner of Benda, Silence of the Clamps, Law and Oracle. All episodes I could watch over and over. (I realize here in Canada a lot of these haven't aired yet, but they're available online.) Point is that Futurama is still producing awesome stuff. Simpsons, ah, not so much.
Ah, I could go on. I admit I had a lot of doubts after the first 'movie' came out, but I'm 100% back on board now; I just feel like the writers of the show love everything I love about storytelling, humour, and the possibilities of science fiction.

We can definitely agree on that.

SoA goes unnoticed in Canada because we didn't get FX.

We get FX now so hopefully shows like Sons of Anarchy and Justified finally get acknowledged in Canada. FX has some of the best shows. Always Sunny in Philly as well.

I think to a certain extent virtually all of the critically acclaimed TV shows are overrated in one way or another.

Dexter, Sopranos, Rome, The Wire, Walking Dead, Breaking Bad.

Because it takes sensationalism to get anyones attention the only way to market or even report or talk about a show is by saying "it'll change the way you watch TV" or "The best show on television" or something similar.

I even think it works for movies. Godfather, Citizen Kane, Casablanca, Gone with the Wind etc. They all tend to get this "it will change your life to watch this movie" tag when really they are just very good films.

The fact that it hasn't once been mentioned in this thread tells me that The Shield is underrated.

Vic Mackey and Shane Vendrell may be my two favorite TV show characters of all time. Great show from the first episode to the last.

I'll go a little bit off base with the movies and choose actors. I think Sean Penn and Anthony Hopkins are both overrated. That is not to say they aren't fantastic actors, but a tad overrated.

I think Hannibal was a tad underrated. Maybe that's just because I loved the book so much.

LOTR: ROTK is overrated. The 3rd one was a dissapointment. I prefer the first 2 by a mile.
