Someone who works at Best Buy said they have them in the back and are releasing them tomorrow. The website says releasing Sept 11th as well.

That was previously true but it sounds like EA was planning on waiting to release the game until Wednesday to avoid releasing the game on 9/11. Who knows, I'm hoping I can get a copy tomorrow.

For what it's worth, at the Bestbuy in Northlands, they had one of those boards that showed all the release dates for each system...it did show NHL '08 on the 13th. Who knows.

I posted this in the other thread but I'll add it here as well.

The IGN review is out. Headline for the review is "The most realistic hockey game to ever hit the ice, but does that also make it the best?" They give it a 8.9/10 which is a great score for a sports game.

http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/819/819016p1.html

"It's not just marketing talk, it's not just hype; EA has finally delivered an NHL title worthy of a standing ovation. Wow."

A note to the people trying to decide between 360 and PS3 for this game. As with Madden the PS3 version received a lower score than the 360 version. 8.9/10 vs 8.6/10 on IGN (Madden was a full poin difference!). May also want to keep in mind that EA has said they will continue to concentrate efforts to the 360 side of things so the difference is something that will probably last for at least another incarnation of the sports franchises past this year.

"Now for the bad news PS3 owners. EA once again does you a huge disservice. With its first NHL title on PS3, EA has really dropped the ball visually. While the gameplay and feature set is identical to 360, the framerate is not. And while EA would like to say the PS3 version runs at 30 frames per second, that's questionable. PlayStation editor Greg Miller put it best upon first seeing NHL 08 running on PS3: "It looks like they're playing hockey under a strobe light." You can still play and enjoy NHL 08 on PS3, but don't you deserve a perfect framerate? Shouldn't you demand a better-looking game? Write your Congressman and get EA to pay the PS3 a bit more respect. Nearly a year into its life, the PS3 should have sports games that run smoothly."

So what exactly does pulling the left trigger do? My guys seem to still stick handle the same as without it...

And I have seen "Vision Control" on '07 and '08 and have no idea what that is.

In 07, you could deke without hitting left trigger. This year, if you want to do a spin or deke past the D, you hold left trigger, and move the D-pads in the way you want the puck+player to move.

Vision Control is when you're using your D man, lets say. You want them to face the direction of the opposition's goalie, so they will never turn around and face your goalie. this is useful when on the blueline, or when you're on D, and they're on a rush. Basically it just turns the D around so they can see the ice. But you can use it for forwards too. It's tricky, but you could deke around the Dmen using this method by tapping it.

the left trigger is vision control....what it does is basically keep your D-man skating backwards with his eye on the play instead of turning this way and that as the attacker comes into the zone. So basically your D-man can subtlely slide over as the attacker makes moves instead of turning all the time and losing control. It also helped when walking the line on the PP so the stick didn't flip around and put yur team offside.

The Left Bumper button separates the puck from the stick. With the left bumper button pressed you use the left analog stick to send the puck where you want it to go and control your player with the right analog stick as always. For example, you can now come down the wing push the puck forwards and towards the boards and try to step around the defender away from the boards and gather the puck up on the other side. Or you can slide the puck between the defenders legs and step around him etc etc etc. It's for 1-on-1 skills to beat the defender. As in real hockey you have to execute it perfectly or have a speed/size mismatch for it to work.

(or did I get the bumper and triggers mixed up...either way that's what they do).

Thanks guys! I think I was screwing up last night and hitting L instead of LB to try do the dekes, as I remember once where the puck left my stick when I first tried it, but then never again. Sounds like it should be fun learning some new moves!
