Parekh, Gridin and Wolf too

Draft Pick

With the clear shift toward a full rebuild, I’m curious whether Craig Conroy has asked Ryan Huska to prioritize player development in both lineup decisions and in-game usage.
We’ve seen some of this already, but I’m hoping to see even more. Ideally, younger players start getting put in more situations where they can really grow. Guys like Matvei Gridin, Zayne Parekh, Matthew Coronato, Samuel Honzek, and William Stromgren should be getting real opportunities — prime power-play time, penalty kill reps, late-game situations, and overtime minutes.
The games might be tougher to watch for a while, but it’ll be worth it if it helps develop the next core.

They need to make a decision on Frost.
If Conroy wants to move him, best to do it before his 8 team trade list kicks in on July 1st.
edit: Well thats annoying.
Capwages says its a 8 team trade list
Puckpedia says its a 8 team no trade list
That is a pretty big difference

Beyond gridin i dont know how the flames make opportunities for young players up front. They have 14 waiver eligible forwards, if hubderdeau wasn't injured someone like Beecher would probably have to be waived just to fit them all in or gridin would be on the farm.
I was thinking about it and guessed only way to get an ncaa signing or stromgren into the lineup would be to waive beecher or if theres a guy or two carrying inuties we dont know about who get shut down for a maintenance surgery or something with the season effectively over? Interested what other options could be out there. Maybe beyond beecher someone like olofsson gets waived and sent to another team or the A if he is not in next year's plans?

If I'm guessing, it's 8 team no trade list. Frost didn't have that much clout when he signed.

Coleman is gone by next TDL, probably off season. Gridin and Coronato are already top six players, with powerplay time. Honzek was getting decent minutes as well, regular shifts with Backlund. Klapka gets decent time.
I expect that the guys who are in their prime now will be decisions for Conroy, depending on what picks and prospects develop and how fast that occurs. Frost, Farabee, Sharangovich, Pospisil, Beecher are all in that grey zone.

I know he’s said the right things about wanting to stay with the leafs, but I wonder if the leafs committed to a rebuild this summer by trading Matthews at the draft. I could see teams like Chicago or San Jose putting together really good packages for him because those teams want to start their competitive windows.
Say Chicago gets the 5th pick overall in the draft this year. Packaging that along with a few other pieces (similar to the Hughes trade) could be a good offer. Gets Chicago a really solid 1-2 punch up the middle and gets them a two-way defensive centre.
Or San Jose could package the Oilers pick + their own pick + Misa for Matthews. Again, a 1-2 punch of cellebrini and Matthews would be solid.
The fans have seemed to turn against the entire roster. It might be so bad that they need to go full rebuild. Would have to know if they are giving up their pick this year or next year before committing though. If they end up picking top 5 with their pick this year, then they can’t really throw in the towel on next season by trading Matthews/Matner because their 1st next year would be unprotected.

Conroy said they're targeting one college UFA, I'm assuming it's this kid.
One of the replies says his dad works for the Flames too (Vice President of Partnerships and Broadcast).

Wouldn't be a bad signing. Reschny is still a year or two out and going back to NCAA, and I don't recall our center depth in the AHL that great.
If anything, looks like a good pick up for a 3rd/4th line center role down the road.

Yup, his dad Kevin has worked for the Flames for something like 30 years on the corporate side.

I wouldn't count out the idea that Reschny signs his ELC after this season. Conroy did also say they plan on signing some of the College draftees. We know the plan was to sign Potter after this season was up. The injury derailed that from happening though.

What is Coleman’s trade protection next year? I can’t see Dallas wanting to trade a first in the off season.

Disagree completely.
He was a top 15 pick his draft year, became UFA after being traded to Colombus, and signed a very team friendly deal to play 3rd pairing while being good defensively. I would argue thats pretty much exactly what happened.
Yeah his father is an executive, but Beans resume stands on its own IMO.

He was a bit of a whipping boy but his numbers defensively here were just not that bad. He was perfectly fine for his role.

Yup, he was basically a slightly less talented Kris Russel. Dude played hard and fearlessly threw himself face first at pucks.
Perfectly serviceable 6/7 in this league.

Heard today that Robert Thomas was never approached about waiving his NMC.
Have to believe that was pretty much all media hype to drive listener/viewer/click bait.
