So is agent Mangiapane, memorialized with Forever a Flame, upon retirement?

I think the plan is to play it out as long as they can with McDavid and Draisaitl. If one or both leave, it is time to dive to the bottom of the NHL for as long as it takes to find another McDavid calibre player.

I don't see the Oilers trading McDavid unless he forces the issue. They will desperately hang on as long as they can.

Dikinson had a good run in Chicago and is a solid bottom 6/PK guy. Dach looks OK, not special, 23 still upside to develop. Bounced between 3rd and 4th lines center and wing.

Dach will be an RFA, Dickinson will be a UFA, at season's end.

Neither were lighting it up this year, 21 points -22 between them.

Bread Eater looks Rockford bound...Buyout would cost $2.93M this year and $333333 next.

'Hawks have $57M in cap space.

A 2027 or 2028 1st round pick is Edmonton overpaying for 2 journeymen rentals, IMO, even with 50% retention on Dickinson.

Note, the 1st round pick is top 12 protected for the Greasers for 2027, however, if the Pick moves to 2028, it will be unconditional.

I think a lot of fan bases will be asking why their team didn’t take this deal from the oilers? Every team has depth players as good or better than Dickinson and Dach that they could have traded. It’s a terrible trade for the oilers IMO and a steal for the Hawks. That first could be a fantastic pick.

The problem here is the Pigs have no idea how to develop players, poor Dach.

The reason it was the Hawks is because Bowman was their GM recently and is familiar with their players. He clearly doesn't trust the Oiler pro scouts to give him good information, nor should he given all the brutal moves they have made.

Any team that Bowman didn't GM recently wasn't in consideration.

Disastrous series of trades for the Oilers.

On paper Skinner, Mangiapane, Kulak for Jarry, Dickinson, Murphy is a fairly reasonable swap. The fact the Oilers have added a 1st and 2x 2nd to make those deals work is hilarious

Mangiapane will probably turn into a decent third liner once he gets the Oiler stink off of him. His 30+ goal scoring days will never return, but he was a decent veteran in Washington and should return to that. He is probably worth $1.5 million on a contract. The Oilers expectations were way out of line as they are every year on July 1.

Toronto is basically in the same boat.

What other trade assets do the Oilers still have? Is this their deadline?

They still have 2nd/3rd picks this year and a 2nd next year. But not much cap space.

Also are might need to keep those picks just because they barely have any the next two years:
2026 - 2, 3, 6, 7
2027 - 2, 6, 7 (assuming they move the first round pick)

Hearing this news on the heels of the Weegar trade last night really made my day. The Oilers continue to be one of the dumbest franchises and its awesome.

I knew this would be a bad signing. Since his 35 goal season his point totals have decreased every single year. The warning signs were right in front of us the whole time.

Part of me feels bad for Mangiapane but he willingly signed in Edmonton. He kind of dug his own grave, unfortunately.

I don't suppose he had a real abundance of offers. The Oilers were probably the only team offering him that kind of money.

As it is, he gets the money and gets out of Stinktown. What's not to like?
