Putting my faith in GMCC and our insiders that we’re going to walk away with more picks and prospects we should get excited about by Friday.
And as always, Edmonton is no good

RH dmen are always coveted, it's just weirdly a spot the Flames have depth

It's all hypothetical unless you're patched into Craig's five burner phones and know exactly what's on the table. Last I checked we have no UFAs of note, we don't need a panic trade like Kadri for a 3rd or something along those lines.
Personally I'd be disappointed if Dreger was correct and there was actually a great deal for Kadri that was nixed by Edwards, but can also understand him not willing to retain up to 10 million on Nazem.

Exactly why I hate it. Just say how many trades you think they will make. Even “one or two” is acceptable, not “the over/under is 1.5”. Pro sports are so addicted to the revenue from gambling advertising, it’s maddening.

Probably a market for both… with retention.

The Flames contracts aren't so bad that every deal needs retention. Players can be moved both ways to make contracts match.

It reminds me of Damon Runyon's stories about horse players and small-time crooks, where everything was expressed in terms of gambling odds. There was one story where a doctor wrote on a patient's chart, ‘10, 40, 100.’ He meant that the odds were 10 to 1 the guy didn't last a week, 40 to 1 he never recovered, and 100 to 1 that if he did recover, he would never be the same again.
It's good for a laugh in fiction, but highly annoying in real life. I don't want a doctor or a sports reporter who talks in those terms; though if I have to have one or the other, I'm glad it's not the doctor.

You'd think so, right?
Every team these days has some "roster fat" that they'd like to shed. Don't know why retention is a must.

If just one of the two forwards need to go so you can maximize the return that makes sense to wait for the retention slot. I'm increasingly hoping its Kadri who gets moved. I think the return will be better and in an absolute worst case scenario coleman is worth a 2nd at the deadline next year whereas a bad year for kadri could mean he has a negative value contract. Feels like more to lose. And I dont think coleman is gonna hurt the draft slot much

it’s possible if Calgary is willing to take a slight discount. Retention is all but required for Naz and few contenders want Blake with retention some might make the space required but times ticking…Ultimately it’s going to come down to the best offer for either player come Thursday/Friday.
Do I see a world where both are moved…Yes but Calgary is going to have to eat something bad or take an offer less than ideal. One retention spot is well a pain to say the least.
I think Coleman is more desired league wide, while I think Naz has more desire to move on.
I expect to see Calgary weaponize the cap space abit based on my conversations today. 44 Million in cap space. A couple Names I’ve heard are Bjorkstrand, Laine.
Lomberg, Pachal, Hanley, Mack’s name continue to be out there.

I don't have really anything to add that hasn't really been said. I do disagree with FS in that I do believe Kadri will move by the deadline this year. Colorado would love to add him but need retention which the Flames are open to doing but only for more than the Avs are willing to pony up. I still think Detroit is where he ends up. They desperately need a #2 C, they have the cap and the assets, and a bonus for Kadri is Detroit is only a 2 hour drive from London. Minnesota is another possibility but hard to make the cap work there as well.
Coleman is definitely gonna go and I think we are going to get a great return because pretty much every playoff team has sniffed around him. The smart money is on TB but I could see Dallas making a push to bring him home too. Seriously, if I made my own trade board I would have Coleman as the most sought after player.
An interesting tidbit I was also told was that Colorado really tried to push for Backlund, they actually prefer Backlund over Kadri. I have no information on if the Flames even approached Backlund about it but I imagine Conroy would have mentioned it, it's a chance to chase a Cup but given how entrenched Backlund is in the community and the organization I imagine he wants to stay. I wonder what a Backlund return would be though. He has earned the right to stay and we need leadership for the young players though.
Pachal and Hanley could both go at the deadline as depth pieces for teams. I am starting to think it might be a quiet deadline due to the new CBA rules. It's a lot harder to make money work for a lot of teams. Anyhow as I said not a lot to share and I have been a bit out of the loop so I'm glad we have other great posters here who have info to share.

Add a pick on the Lighting side for taking Bjorkstrand and it makes sense.
Could probably flip Bjorkstrand to a playoff team with lots of cap room too.
