That was a great game by Canada, considering the past several. It was a good effort and they can be proud!

One more goal would have sealed it and after the second period, everyone knew that the Canadians needed an insurance marker… so heartbreaking.

The good news is they have every reason to hold their heads high after that effort.

Silver medal and such a close game, be very proud Team Canada!

Re politics in this thread. If this game took place under any other President in our lifetimes, there would be zero discussion of politics.

This game took place during the Presidency of a psychopath that is actively seeking to destroy and annex our country - rightly or wrongly, it would be ridiculous to not expect political points being made here.

We live in a time that is completely unprecedented with our entire country under threat as a result of the actions of the country the opposition represents. That is no slur against the US Women’s Olympic team, it is a reaction to the unprovoked aggression Canada is facing from the US.

The situation being what it is, you'd think the people talking politics in this hockey thread would have boycotted the Olympics altogether and not watched it. And probably petitioned the Canadian Olympic team to boycott the games unless the IOC banned the US from the games.

It always sucks losing to the U.S. in anything hockey related. It’s like losing to the Oilers but with a different kind of annoyance, because of the amount of casual American fans that will have eyes on the game. Don’t let them ruin this awesome tournament for you.

As someone who’s gone to school and now works in the States, nothing has felt better than throwing on my 2010 Olympics Iginla jersey after that gold medal game and again during the Four Nations last year. I’ve been hoping for a Canada–USA final for that exact reason. The rivalry is elite when it’s at its best and i’ve been lucky to be on the gloating side of it many times now. Yeah, it stings that Canada lost today and it will sting even more if they don’t bring home gold in the mens. But let’s keep it in perspective. Canada has dominated international hockey, men’s and women’s, for the better part of three decades. One game doesn’t change that and it’s still Canadas sport.

Some of the comments in here make it clear people are treating this like more than just hockey. If that’s how you feel, fair enough, but protect your mental health. Social media is literally designed to rile you up and keep you scrolling. Don’t let it win and enjoy the rest of the games in peace.

And for the love of God, stay off Twitter.

Miss the days when hockey chat was hockey chat and people kept their personal political crap to themselves. I am proud to be born in Canada, but even prouder to be a citizen of the USA where it is my home. Canada is not what it once was and likely will never be again, which is why I live here among other reasons, which I keep to myself.

I enjoyed the HOCKEY game. The hockey was epic and good. Too bad Canada couldn't h old on at the end, but we have seen these all across the board at the olympics and it has made for some great hockey to watch. I, like many of you, thing that the 3 v 3 OT is find for preliminaries to get to where we need to be in the playoffs (quarterfinals and beyond). It should really be 5 v 5 until someone scores. 3v3 and shootouts to determine the best hockey teams in a world olympics seems pretty crazy to me.
