It's really not. Two teams of women, most of which very likely don't support orange man, playing the game of their lives, is what should be the focus.
IE: It's very possible to focus on the sporting event itself, rather than whatever grievances the government of said countries have with each other. Some people just can't help themselves though.
You know what I find so fascinating about this whole conversation.
I'm routinely reminded that posting on CP is just entertainment/recreation, and has no material impact on the world in any meaningful way. I'm routinely reminded that not that many people read CP, and almost nobody who reads the board actually gives AF about the opinions that are shared here.
Whether it's about Ovechkin's love of Putin, the 2024 US election, or the Flames rebuild, I'm reminded to oh my god get a grip, quit taking this stuff so seriously, nothing you post here is gonna matter for #### anyway.
And yet now immediately following a Canada-USA womens hockey game, it's for some reason the right time to fill the game thread with politics because... reasons? I mean I would kind of get it if it was the mens teams, because of Matthew's fellatio at the WH the other day. But this US womens team mostly doesn't approve of Trump.
I’m sure Russia recently and Nazi Germany 90 years ago also wanted political critics to shut up and focus on the beautiful purity of sport before they went and killed a bunch of people.
I understand the sentiment of wanting to talk hockey, but nobody is stopping anyone from doing that. Wanting to shut down political conversation is incredibly ignorant, though. Both can exist. You can simply talk about what you want to talk about and don’t talk about what you don’t want to talk about. You are in control of what you read and say.
Cool so why bother having a separate forum for politics? Let's just combine everything together then?

As somebody just out of an 8 day hospital stay, I’ll just say politics are so effing annoying and discussions about politics in a hockey thread are so effing annoying. I’m just happy I’m alive and I thought the Canadians put up a damn good fight! Really fun watch.

Didn’t see you or anyone else taking issue with it despite us having a separate forum for it.
Must have missed it.
1) Talking about Olympic hockey in an NHL hockey forum is not that much of a stretch. Talking politics in an NHL hockey forum (when there's already a separate forum for politics) is a larger stretch.
2) With the entire board talking Olympic hockey here in the NHL forum for several days, I already accepted it to be the norm and went along with it. If it becomes the norm to regularly talk politics in the NHL forum, I'll accept that as the norm too. But I'm hoping it doesn't go in that direction.

I am of two, split minds.
1. I don't think what happens on the ice between the U.S. and Canada matters at all in the broader political context. In fact, I got annoyed when people tried to make the 4 Nations cup even more important because of what was/is happening between the two nations. In the context of that, it is 100% meaningless.
2. But with that said, with the magnitude and implications of what is happening in the U.S. right now, and how that impacts the entire globe, we should not be surprised that it leaks into every conversation. And trying to keep it walled off to political discussion only, is ignoring those far reaching implications.
So it doesn't matter. But it does.

Talking politics in an Olympic thread, something that is inherently political, isn’t really a stretch at all.
Nobody is advocating for the permanent inclusion of politics into every NHL related thread. People are saying it makes sense that it comes up in a Canada vs USA olympic thread. Pretty simple. Not dramatic.
Just don’t bother with the “what’s the point of having a separate forum” nonsense. It’s ignorant and pointless, especially considering you haven’t mentioned it once in an Olympic thread and don’t seem to mind people talking about the NBA either (oh, but it’s related because they have a draft! lol). None of these topics are at risk of becoming permanent inclusions.
It's so frustrating to see sports, especially hockey become to politicized nowadays, this thread should locked, why can't the woke mob just stand down and let us enjoy our game. Politics belong in the politics thread and hockey should never mix. Anyway

I'd like to profusely apologize for disrespecting the sanctity of the nation vs nation hockey game thread. But it's hilarious how many posters who couldn't let a driveby comment about their beloved pedo-fascist leaders go by unchallenged.
You’re sorry but not sorry. Just look at what you’ve done here
I was busy for a couple of days but had some juicy responses for the nonce lovers in the Florida thread and then the mods closed it because I guess we can't have crossover in subject matter between forums or something?
I think that's lame. Just let the conversation organically go where it will. Makes it more enjoyable.
In the trade speculation thread yeah we want things on subject because it has a purpose but that was just an obscure nothing thread to begin with, so who cares where it goes?
Olympics is pretty political, makes sense for some of that talk to bleed into it.
Sports and politics crossing over is logical with the state the world is in right now.
It's odd to me that the mods will clamp down on deviation of subject matter but they'll let people with horrible beliefs spread dangerous misinformation from the rooftops to their heart's content. Interesting battles we're picking.

So maybe it's just my ignorant ass (and I apologize because that's exactly how this is going to sound), but is it just me or is woman's hockey way better than it used to be? 10 years ago I was that dickhead spouting off about how it seemed to be like junior B quality, by damn this tournament was fun. I'll be checking out the PWHL a bit going forward.

It is significantly better. Even more than 10 years ago. The leap forward in women's sports in general is undeniable.
And it's going to evolve in another significant leap by the time the next Olympics come around. Pwhl with NHL backing is only going to accelerate player development throughout women's hockey, globally.

Yeah I'm seeing 51st State crap on the socials too. Sunday can't come soon enough haha (knock on wood it comes to that).
You can't flip out, that's what they want, just play their own stupid game. I just say things like "does that mean I have to convert my Canadian dollars to rubles?", or "I can't wait to take Minnesota and the entire West coast from you idiots ". It's so stupid, but it works.
/ my own political talk in here
Helluva performance by the women today, still something to be proud of against a frankly superior opponent at the moment.
Unfortunate result, but really proud of the team. There was so much noise going into the game about how the US team was far superior and would cruise to victory. Canada almost found away and fought to the end. I’m sure the team won’t be happy with the result, but the country is proud of what they accomplished.

When stuff starts to get circular and repetitive, we'll step in.
Got a problem, PM the Mod account. kthx
