According to some, we therefore need to reassess the zadorov trade as a 2nd round pick.

With the recent quality of Flames scouting, they've been able to draft first round caliber players even into the 7th round of the draft, so really every draft pick the Flames get is like a 1st rounder.

True, but on the flip side, all those players they draft are almost 40!

I don't think the original poster is arguing that a 1st is actually a 2nd. Many of the posters calling him out are the ones insistent on classifying a 1st as a 1st, but the original premise of the argument is that the return was not great because it's a late 1st whose value is probably closer to a 2nd than an early/mid first, because it's Vegas.

No, that’s not what the poster said.

It's not horrible, but it's not great either. To be fair I don't mind Whitecloud at all either.

It doesn't mean it can't be a great pick, odds are it won't be, as I said with a pick in that range we'll be very lucky to get a solid 3rd line player.
The return is what it is, but it's nothing to be excited about.
I do however like Whitecloud, and I wouldn't mind if he stuck around.

There is also certainly no gurantee that Vegas is a top team in 2027 anyway...even now they have lost more games than they have won.

Just adding more comments to how stupid this take is… no bottom feeding team is trading their 2nds for rentals/vets…. So pretending that could be the case for this ridiculous comparison is painfully dishonest or stupid. I can’t decide which one of those it was.

Exactly, if these early seconds are just as valuble or almost as valueble you aren't getting those either lol.
Like do you want the Flames to trade their 2nd for a pending UFA this season??

The point is not that 28=34, nor is the point who is trading the pick. Seriously, why is it relevant that a bottom feeder has the 34th pick? The point is there's not much difference in value.

No, the point is an early 2nd isn't available for trade, those lower teams are not trading their early round 1st's or 2nd's for vets at the deadline. So it is either a mid to late 1st, or a mid to late 2nd, which IS a big difference. If you want to say a late 1st is basically an early 2nd, fine, debatable, but saying a late 1st may as well be a 2nd is BS.

The difference is that Vegas’ 2nd round pick is nowhere near 34th. It’s dumb and their 1st is not basically a 2nd.

Haha this was the argument! Nobody is saying the Vegas 1st may have just as well been a Vegas 2nd. Nobody is saying we basically got a late 2nd for Andersson.
"The Vegas 1st is late, there's little difference in value between a late 1st and an early 2nd"
Response: "Well actually, an early 2nd isn't even available in trade!"
Huh? What are you guys even arguing about? You've lost the plot.

Essentially
To the essentially crowd, next time you go to buy a car and it’s 42,500.
Would you be ok with the salesman saying, well it’s essentially 45000, so pay up.
One number is not essentially a different number.
