It is being changed for next season.

they have Stone and Seabrook for that role

I loved him as a player, but how do we know that he's a good coach?

I doubt he leaves Ontario.

Isn't that what Michael Stone and Brent Seabrook are doing? Seabrook in particular bring his 1000+ NHL games worth of experience along with some cup rings. Considering he just joined the team last summer we could probably give him a bit more time...

Yes, and I'm not saying they aren't doing a good job - I honestly have no idea. It obviously can't hurt having someone as experienced as Seabrook in the coaching staff. But I was just coming from the perspective that Gio was more of an offensive d-man and having someone like that around could potentially benefit Parekh's development. I also wasn't intending that they'd need to subtract in order to add another member of the player development staff. But anyways, I don't think it's a huge priority just food for thought.

From what I understand, it is being changed… next year. So as usual, the Flames will be the last team to get screwed by this particular bizarre pileup of technicalities.

An awesome goal for Stromgren.

It was stupid.

Everyone went in with the narrative that he was poor defensively, and were then hyper critical of him for everything.

He's not bad defensively. He's just really good offensively.

I thought he just looked slow to react on October. He knows what to do, he just needed to adjust to NHL speed - they have to anticipate suddenly being on defence and they have to keep their gaps smaller. He seemed fine with this in his last game. I imagine WJC talent games are a lot quicker than junior.

The other thing about NHL speed is that it applies to hit avoidance as well.

I'd agree, the pace of play was the biggest adjustment needed.

He was looking pretty good going into the Olympic break though.

Yes, that was part of my point and IMO the WJC experience helped. The elite teams play a lot closer to NHL speed.

I think that is right as well, but I do think he is still tentative in his own end. It isn't about straight line speed, but just his decision making and perhaps injury concern.

Smart teams will be constantly dumping and chasing into his corner. He will need to be able to minimize his weaknesses and play to his strengths, which means partnering him with a really steady defensive force (or at minimum a very strong first pass out of the zone) will be important to his development.

Stromgren just named AHL Player of the Week. Good timing for another call up, perhaps if some veteran forwards get moved.
