This is some silly mental gymnastics. It's much easier to simply admit you're not tolerant of fascist scum.

The problem in some cases in the past when society wasn't in the process of actively crumbling before our eyes was the people doing the punching arguably applying the label "fascist scum" overbroadly.

Theres a New York Magazine story about trumps health, heres an excerpt

"[My father] had one problem," Trump said. "
He started getting, what do they call it?" He pointed to his forehead and looked to his press secretary for the word that escaped him.
"Alzheimer's," Leavitt said.
"Like an Alzheimer's thing," Trump said. "Well, I don't have it."

Fewer mental gymnastics than a paradox.

Trump and staff grifting political prop bets about themselves while simultaneously attempting to start a civil war is the modern day Nero on a Fiddle.

One of the 7 D that voted for the DHS funding has admitted to being stupid

1/26/26
"I failed to view the DHS funding vote as a referendum on the illegal and immoral conduct of ICE in Minneapolis. I hear the anger from many of my constituents, and I take responsibility for that. I have long been critical of ICE's unlawful behavior and I must do a better job demonstrating that.
The senseless and tragic murder of Alex Pretti underscores what happens when untrained federal agents operate without accountability. President Trump must immediately end
"Operation Metro Surge" and ICE's occupation of Minneapolis that has sown chaos, led to tragedy, and undermined experienced local law enforcement."

Sudden and immediate is best for everyone - no chance to prepare or transition smoothly to anyone else. Just chaos. Death of Stalin (the movie) right in front of our eyes.

I want to be clear about my opinion here, because I don't think I disagree with you all that much. Beyond possibly banning from the forum if it becomes a disruption. I think the vast majority of these trolls should not and probably will not face any real world consequences.

But they should be called out every single time, loudly. And we should also loudly welcome discourse with them, and be especially welcoming of any concessions back towards sanity. This needs to be a safe place for people to admit that they should have done better in the past, because we really, really need a whole lotta people to do a lot better than they have been doing if we are to get out of this.

Don't be kind to DoctorFever, don't forgive his deliberate misreading of peoples statements and deliberate gaslighting and ignorance of the broader context all of these conversations are happening. But also give him the space to admit he is wrong, if he ever figures it out. I'd say ideological puritanism from the left is one of the leading reasons people have drifted into the arms of grifters like Trump (not that it is the peoples fault, who were on ideologically sound footing for these people supporting Nazis, but we really need to give these guys any off ramp they are willing to take).

I get what you are saying, but I think it's also OK to recognize after years of interaction that some people are just lost causes and no amount of safe spaces or coddling will see them acknowledge where they are wrong.

I read something last week where they had an office at the Trump org for his dad, just had a desk and lots of papers for him to sign papers all day to keep him busy- that would be a great option for diaper don...

So this is his backup plan, ICE agents that are simply there to enforce "immigration law" by doing crowd control and shooting tear gas at protestors...hmm...something doesn't add up there. Kristi Noem is playing the role of Heinrich Muller in this historical re-enactment.

Those National Guard members didn't sign up for any of this, hence their support for the protestors. Those ICE agents were specifically recruited in the most hateful places of the manosphere to "take our country back". Lots of documentation of their recruitment tactics to find the worst of the worst. Wannabe rent-a-cops who are dangerously unhinged and ready to attack. These men were brought together to do one thing only: Intimidate, scare, attack, and imprison anyone that Der Fuhrer finds problematic. They are the Brown Shirts mixed with the Gestapo. Nobody should view them as anything other than that. They deserve our full hatred and derision. They are not patriots. They are evil.

It's important to recognize and call out what and who these people are. The next step is to fight back.
I am wondering where all this can go worst case scenario. If the state national guard did get into a confrontation with ICE agents, the next step would probably be for Trump to turn ICE into a straight up paramilitary group. Trump is working on creating his own version of the Gestapo, but he still doesn't have his own private paramilitary group like the SS. I have to think that is probably next on his list of to-do items.

When the DHS was created after 9/11, it always felt like something to keep a watchful eye on and could get out of control with the powers it was given. I watched a podcast yesterday that had a former ICE person talking about how rounding up immigrants and stuff like that is only one part of what ICE is doing. He said there is also a more clandestine element where they are basically spying on the U.S. population. He mentioned that they have agents overseas in places like Columbia. He also said there is a bit of an internal fight going on within ICE because the agents who are not on the street dealing directly with arresting immigrants, no longer want "ICE" on their badges because they are embarrassed by what is going on and don't want to be associated with it.

In the spirit of openness, fairness, and extending an olive branch... this is the best both sides argument between the left and MAGA I've seen so far

There is some swearing

To be accurate though, the National Guard isn't supporting the protesters or on their side or anything like that. They were ordered to hand out refreshments in order to help deescalate the situation and improve public relations. They're also there to help relieve police from some of their duties so the police can manage the large protests.

But ultimately, the National Guard and ICE are on the same side. If they're ordered to support ICE's operations, they absolutely will.

When they created it, they dressed it up as an anti-terrorism force, looking for external threats. Those of us who were more wary at the time saw it for what it could potentially be, an force dedicated to quelling dissidents, rebellions, or just anyone who doesn't follow "the party line". It's not a stretch to see that happening under this current regime. I would hope for enough non-compliance to stop this, but in the end, those that object will leave that force and be replaced by the "true believers".

Deescalation is a good thing. Hopefully it works.
