I'm all for cheering gleefully when things hurt the USA or its industries, particularly in areas that supported Trump, but that shouldn't be how our government operates. That's actually very Trump-esque vindictive thinking. Carney, to his credit, never gives the impression that he operates in that manner. It shouldn't matter how much a particular course of action harms the USA, only how much it helps this country. Not buying US planes and tanks is good for Canada not because it hurts America, but because we're better off with equipment that serves our needs from countries we're still aligned with and who aren't a potential threat.

Shouldn’t we just go full scale drone production since that’s what war is nowadays anyway?

Drone flyovers for the Labour Day Classic or Stampede Rodeo are going to suck in the future.

To put it simply, this is how "voting with your dollars" works. There is nothing vindictive or Trump-esque about it.

And to be clear I did not say anything about harming people, harming their industries is how you speak their language (especially in America) and apply pressure to indirectly create change.

We do not have the power to affect change in a direct way, but we do have some power and some leverage to influence the situation. If boycotting American alcohol companies to the point where Jim Bean is closing their primary facility is not enough, then redirecting our military spending away from Lockheed Martin should get some lobbyists moving in DC to change the course of action the American government is moving in before they lose billions of dollars.

Each of these moves have layers to them. Yes, one of the layers is "what is best for Canada", another layer is "reducing reliance on a bad ally", yet another layer is "applying pressure in hope that it helps the bad ally change their course of action", or "rewarding good allies who want to build healthy partnerships where we both get stronger". Publicly, we will always talk about what is best for Canada but that doesn't mean the other motivations are not baked in as well.

The entire EU is gearing up to do the same things and none of it is because they want to hurt Americans, they are simply setting the stage to protect their interests and if they can create enough pain in certain industries in America then it may result in American billionaires kicking down the door to tell the blob that he needs to stop before he permanently costs them all access to the entire EU market.

I finally got to this today.
Bravo, Mr Carney
Clearly has drawn the ire of POTUS. So be it.

The irony is that when Trump comes out and says how we’re not grateful and we live because they let us, it was the entire point of that speech!

But at least we have our morals. We will suck Trump’s dick and take a finger up the ass. But we’ll still have our morals… can’t take that from us, and that’s what really counts.

Finally had some time to listen to the whole thing. Incredible stuff, every sentence with something to say. I really want to commend him on opening in French, though. He showed Quebec that they are noticed, and to the world that we are one. Given his stumbles learning french during the election, it was wild to see how much more eloquent he was given he's learned while also governing through the ####storm. That was a brilliant political move.

There was almost a point where he hinted we'd be building the Grippen here, if you read into it a bit...

I was sort of on the Carney train before, but now I'm fully converted. He finished any ambitions PP might of still held on being PM, as Carney's message will resonate with moderate Cons. Yeah, PP will still have Marilena and all her idiots, but he's done on the national stage.
Honestly this is the Carney that got my vote, before elbows, sans the Trump back. But the thoughtful and intellectual pragmatism that he showed in his 2015 tragedy of the Horizon speech.

Since he has been elected, I have been waiting for Him to mobilize an alliance of the sensible against the big 3.5 (I'll give India a 0.5 because while not developed, they aren't far off of where China was 15 years ago.

I really hope that is what this is. I don't know how he herd all of these kittens, but he is 100% right on the prognosis.

Apparently Carney rejected a speech by his writers and wrote his own, quite a difference a year makes, Trudeau would have shown up in a Bavarian Oktoberfest costume dancing a Bedala thinking stomping his feet would have meant something.

Love this Carney dudes style

“Nostalgia is not a strategy” was the line of the speech for me.

That Davos speech was probably the most impactful single act that a Canadian Prime Minister has made since… I don’t even know. Before Trudeau at least.

Feels good to have a boring adult at the head of the table, making sound adult decisions based on facts.
