Part of the logic behind Conroy/Flames talking contract with EVERY pending UFA is because if you have to make a trade, you have that information to help ease teams into a trade without having to allow them to talk directly.

Good point. Friedman may think a 1st and a prospect chosen in the 1st is that. I don't, but that does make sense.

2 firsts is a haul...people have different opinions on the prospects. Like how many 2 first for a pending UFA have we seen recently?

That’s fair, I trust the Flames scouting more than my opinion too. If they trade for him I’ll still be optimistic on his development. Just was hoping for a bit of a better prospect

I know that but I'm just saying that any good team is going to be in that range of pick. And usually kind of a crapshoot.
Calgary took Gridin one before Hemming and he seems pretty good.

Also, just to note, that the Lindolm trade had a bunch of pieces besides the 1st and Brzustewicz, so likely an Andersson deal would have more than the 1st + Hemming or Danielson just those being the main pieces of the deal.

I'd be okay with a RW version of Honzek with a bit more finish.

That's more about the two players (Danielson v Hemming) versus the picks though. Picks in the 20s are hit and miss at best.
And the Detroit package is with an extension so it should be better.

I would love it was San Jose. They could probably use a couple more pieces that we have so it could turn into a bigger deal. Hanley for example could upgrade a bit and maybe they want a bottom 6 winger we have a bunch of those

I thought Hemming looked OK at the WJs, didn't stand out as a star but I did notice him here and there. I haven't watched the Colts play but his stat line looks like he's kind of a supporting/secondary scorer for them with 9 goals in 30 games in the O and a bunch of assists which I am guessing he has picked up playing with 3 players who seem to be bigger goal scorers. I wouldn't really have any expectations for him beyond being a middle six winger if he pans out. And with a 1st that is kind of what I expected for Ras, just had hopes up a little with these Detroit rumors.
For me I'd rather Schmidt who has 30 goals in 43 games at the same level and is a full year younger. And when I have seen him really seems to drive play. But he is 100% a bigger swing with a higher ceiling and way lower floor in my mind who might not even play in the NHL at all whereas it's hard to see Hemming not at least playing as a depth forward with his size and skillset he could slot in as a depth forward.
But I get that the draft slot has a value attached to it in people's minds. And Schmidt at 5'8" has an uphill battle in front of him to prove that size won't prevent him from continuing that production as he moves up.
That said he was Dallas's first pick in this last draft and while they didn't pick until the third round it's not a reach to think they would have had him somewhere in the 2nd... decent scouting staff.

Gridin and Brz.
Not often you get a top 6 forward and top 4 d-man from one trade. Let alone another piece that helped you get two more middle six forwards.

Anyone have a wider net of beat writers on twitter that see any of these rumors popping up from the other end? Would be nice to have some more solid indication on who the "final suitors" are.

Hemming + 1st would still be a win IMO, but way less exciting than some of the rumors.
I've had a Boston feeling around this one for a while.

For interests sake, Emil Hemming is currently 5th in points-per-game in the OHL with a stat line of ...
20GP - 9G - 22A - 31P - 1.55 PPGA
