Took my wife to her first Wranglers game today. The Gulls were all there…. A handful of Wranglers showed up. The Russians.
Gridin is too good for the AHL. It just looks too easy for him. Sergeev looked good. Lots of saves in tight. Frk looked good. Kerins was ok. The defence played reasonably well. The wranglers were badly outshot and I doubt this was close to their best performance but a win is a win.

The Winterfest idea is fun too - went with the family and the kids got a kick out of all the prizes being tossed into the stands by the players/ice crew after the first goal (like a reverse teddy bear toss).
I agree with the crowd yelling C and Red during the American national anthem, however, it can be improved by replacing each "Oh say" with "Owen Say"

Went to the game yesterday as well, first time for me and my son. I will add that while Sergeev had a 50+ save performance, a lot of volume but I wouldn’t say there were a huge amount of grade A chances by the Gulls. They certainly had the puck much of the game though. Great way for him to get his first AHL win though in his first game.
Gridin is a treat to watch, and my son now has a new favourite Flame in the making, which hasn’t really happened since a Johnny left.
We both noticed the physicality of the game, and Kerins had a huge open ice hit to prevent a scoring chance in the slot that drew a bit of a skirmish after.
Matthew Phillips still looks like a career AHLer

I wish we could dump Prosvetov so Sergeev could get more starts. 50 save performance in his Wranglers debut is not too shabby.

Goalies are weird. I was ready for the Flames to cut bait on Cooley last year when he cratered in the second half, now hes the NHL back up and putting up solid numbers.

Prosvetov is out week to week from what I understand. Why not give Sergeev a good run in the meantime and send Say down to Rapid City for a spell when Prosvetov gets back?

I’m not normally one to bother with player interviews, but I have to say the recent Wranglers Watch one with Martin Frk was pretty interesting. Quality vet to have around the kids, plus he’s committed to the community, having just bought a house here with his Calgarian wife. Also- Sandra Prusina’s a pro. Available wherever you get your podcasts!

You could say Sergeev was playing with a full deck.

Wranglers lost last night 5-2 to Tucson. Frk (Grushnikiv, Kerins) and Hunt (Frk, Kerins). Say with the loss.
They play again today at 4:00 MST.

I agree with what a number of posters above have said about Gridin. He was the only Wrangler foward that looked like he could do some damage offensively when I watched them last month. I think he is our best offensive prospect in the system.
He did look like he’s going to need more of a challenge soon. Hopefully the plan is to bring him up during the second half of the season. Especially if any of our vet forwards get moved out.
