Andersson just said, in so many words, that the Flames will not re-sign him
"it takes two to tango, let's just leave it at that"

Well, if Carolina is a good trading partner, you’d better hope Kadri hasn’t gone with places he doesn’t want to move to, because that’s definitely gonna be one.

We are only a few points out of a playoff spot, watch them add.

How do we "definitely" know the cities where Kadri wants to live?

Well, that was a bit strong but it’s been pretty clear he wants nothing to do with certain states.

The flames would have re-signed him ages ago if he'd take a reasonable salary but if rumors are true and he wants like 8.5 a year, hes being a bit disingenuous claiming its just the flames who dont want a deal

To be fair, the cap will be going up. Players are going to make more. And he is playing incredible lately.
I don't think Ras at 8.5 would be crazy for a team signing him.

You're on crack if you think you can make a 13 team list - in the summer - that would effectively eliminate all potential suiters.

I'm not familiar with the terms of his contract. Does it specifically say that he had to make the list in the summer? It's my understanding that not all contracts specify the same time about when the list has to be made.

And it's not just the $$$, it's the years of having one of only two retention spots tied up. So the return would have to be a lot. Much better to just take back a bad contract.

Since 2022, the Flames always have a strong record in December, for some reason.
It seems like the Flames are often healthier than most of the league in terms of injuries.

Problem is even the states you might want to live in will just have ICE and the military looking for your family. Safest place is probably NYC, they won’t send either in there I don’t think because the people of NYC would probably kick the crap out of both. But that really limits your trade options.
At this point in time true swing states look like a potential option too, but that will change closer to the midterms I suspect. Tough spot to be in if you are open to moving.

I think how he put it is more of a PR move on his part. Try to push the blame away from himself.

If the Flames were able to get that package for Kadri, that would be highway robbery.
Would love to see it happen though.

If the Flames don’t end up with McKenna, Stenberg, Vereohoff, or Lawrence, that would be a missed opportunity, no doubt.
It is a bit concerning to see the Blackhawks and Kraken sinking like rocks while Don Maloney’s wet dream of the Flames being a ‘tough out’ being realized.
Groundhog Day with this team. Destined to be the Portland Trail Blazers of the NHL.
Indifference/apathy starting to take hold, think I heard Stienberg say there has not been many sellouts this year, maybe none at all.

Big talk but we don't need to wait. I've been waiting months for this! I posted a couple of lists over the summer and I think I remember stemit14 did as well.

13 team no trade list vs. 18 teams not on the list (1 team currently with)
19 teams not on the list: - Flames
- Penguins, Flyers = No risk that they would spend assets to acquire Kadri as they look to be tanking
- Stars, Oilers, Devils, Panthers, Lightning, VGK, Senators, Rangers, Bruins = Teams with 2-3 established centers and no cap space for Kadri
- Kraken, Mammoth, Sharks, Ducks, Blackhawks, Hurricane = Teams that might have cap space but already have 2-3 centers (no desire to add another C with 4 years term left)
- Leafs = Teams that might want Kadri but do not have the cap space or assets to trade for him
Potential 13 team no trade list
Canadiens, Islanders, Capitals, Jets, Sabres, Blues, Red Wings, Blue Jackets, Kings, Canucks, Predators, Wild, Avalanche
I am not sure how many of these teams would actually need to be on the list. Predators, Kings, and Avalanche all seem unlikely to be after Kadri for various reasons. Namely, the Preds are a mess and another vet won't fix that and Kings and Avs have no cap space and look to have their C depth figured out for now. Maybe switch one of them with the Blackhawks and Mammoth in case they want to upgrade their GAF meter.
I am sure you can play with the list yourself a bit and see how you can use a 13 team NTL to eliminate most or all of the viable trade partners. Even if you have the case where a team has one of their Cs get injured (like the Devils and Hughes) they are unlikely to pick up a guy with 4 years left on his contract to be a stop gap while their guy recovers.
|
I think everyone would agree that the Preds wouldn't actually be on Kadri's list, so let's swap them out with a city that Kadri would be more likely to block. Any team in that 4th bullet would be a good guess but the Hurricane are the only playoff team in that group, so block them as last summer they were most likely to be buyers.
Potential 13 team no trade list (corrected)
Canadiens, Islanders, Capitals, Jets, Sabres, Blues, Red Wings, Blue Jackets, Kings, Canucks, Wild, Avalanche, Hurricane

So which 2 teams are generating a competitive discussion around Kadri that are not on that no trade list? Specifically. None of this generic "there must be a team in that group".

Andersson acting like it takes two to tango is quite humorous.
Wanting more from CGY than almost any other team, being very vocal about preferring to go to a contender.
Yea it does take two, and he’s been very adamant for the better part of two seasons now that he’d rather go UFA and make a decision thats best for his family. Honestly, he’s earned that right and I don’t fault him for it, but let’s call a spade a spade and be honest with why both sides prefer to move on.
