Pickford is who I wanted the Flames to take but they took a coke machine on skates instead.

Dec.19th:
Kingston pulls off a massive upset, defeating the powerhouse Brantford Bulldogs by a score of 4-2. Ironically, Battaglia was not in the lineup. 31gp/12g/11a/23pts,-5, 30 PIM.
Hurtig gets 1a, and was +1 in a 3-2 OT loss to the Wheaties. 28gp/3g/5a/8pts,+15, 23 PIM, he is tied for 24th in plus/minus.

Kingston beats Brampton by a score of 4-2. All zeroes for Battaglia, other than 5 and a game for Boarding. 32gp/12g/11a/23pts,-5, 35 PIM. By my count, the Fronts have won 5 straight.

Eventually teams will quit just picking based on size. The Flames are getting closer to figuring that out but still make misses just picking guys because they are big. You can trade for big, or pick it up on the wire like Beecher. Can’t usually trade for talent and really can’t pick it up on the waiver wire.
Same draft the Hawks took Parker Holmes in the 4th round and 6 picks later the Habs took LJ Mooney. Just baffling size based drafting in both cases.

No points for Laing, who got 5 shots, and went 5/8 on faceoffs, in a 3-2 OT win over Regina. 32gp/15g/16a/31pts,+3, 14 PIM.
Hurtig gets no points, and was -1 in a 9-5 loss to Kamloops. 29gp/3g/5a/8pts,+14, 23 PIM.

Saw Battaglia live today and I am not sure what happened to the guy. He was pretty invisible all game. His team got dominated but he just was not really a factor. Strange because he was always noticeable in his draft year and last year.

Makes no sense. Flames already gave him an ELC too.
Guys trajectory was steady year over year like you'd expect, then drops off a cliff. Hopefully not partying or something stupid like that.
Just goes to show you have to keep stock piling draft picks. Can almost never have too many.

Dec.8th:
The Guelph Storm have acquired C Tyler Hopkins from the Kingston Frontenacs, in exchange for F Alex McLean and 4 picks.
All zeroes again for Battaglia, as the Fronts fall to Ottawa, 5-3. Newly acquired Alex McLean gets 1g, and was +1. Battaglia is at 33gp/12g/11a/23pts,-5, 35 PIM.
Laing picks up 1a, and was +1 in a 4-0 win over Regina. 33gp/15g/17a/32pts,+4, 14 PIM.

Instead of the Flames training camp giving Battaglia a boost it seems to have let all the air out of him?

There aren't many forwards with a stat line like that coming out of the OHL that make it to the NHL. Agree with others, totally baffling.

Kingston traded Hopkins, now hopefully they will trade Battaglia to a better team.

Would be nice if Battaglia got traded to the Hitmen but trading from the Ohl to the Whl doesn’t work does it.

Unfortunately not. There are transfers that have happened, but rarely- no trades.
