I expect as other teams start ramping up the second 20 game set, we'll see Flames get those coveted losses. They had to play above their heads just to be barely over .500 over the last stretch of games.

Is this a hot streak or is this the team playing up to their level? If I look at the season to date, the first 15 games or so seems like the anomaly. Since then they have played similarly to last year.
Trading Rasmus at the deadline should have a negative effect. But I looked at the record at end of 2024 and they were .500 in their last ten games after trading half the team. In small samples, anything can happen especially with an injection of youth.
'm not ready to predict anything but this looks like a team working hard and getting solid goaltending. Some of the big underperformers have been picking it up lately.

Never hated Andersson, but the timing is such that he needs to be traded and not extended.
He started out slow this year so maybe some posters gave the impression that he sucks, but he'll fetch a good return.
Alas, the return would have been better if they traded him last year.

How do we know this? There are so many factors that weigh into a trade return including how the player is performing, term remaining and the available buyers.

I agree that we never know what to expect. But I am still of the gut feeling when all's said and done, Flames will still be drafting top 5 this season. Maybe that's wishful thinking on my part, but I don't feel any panic yet until they go on a 10 game heater lol.
At the end of the day, I'm with you. I do now subconsciously cheer for losses, even though before I was on the anti tank side. Maybe it's the Maloney thing that rubbed me the wrong way. I just really want the team performance to spell out to upper management that this team is clearly not good enough, and continuing to spin their wheels is the worst way to run this franchise. We have an opportunity to draft a high end guy, and we refuse to do so?

Flames played at their best capacity, Minnesota was terrible by their standards. The worst team wins games when that happens. Unless the Flames never try at all, they will win those kind of games.

Hopefully someone wants to trade for Andersson etc before the team wins too much and the brass things they can make the playoffs!

Rasmus would be the first asset that the Flames have ever let walk to free agency under Conroy in that scenario, don’t think you have much to worry about.

A huge thing to say right now but the frustration is valid.
In no way is that a stab at Conny, I believe in what he's doing for the organization. The rest of upper managment has me saying otherwise.
We had to watch the Canucks dominate most of the 2010's
Recently watch the Oilers dominate (if you can even call it that) the 2020's.
Last thing this fanbase needs is another divisional rival to have a generational talent.
I understand it's still early in the season but the scare/frustration is there.

Those two are nothing too special

Just curious what are you using as the playoff number? Because currently the pace is quite low

They need to draft 1-2 though. Not top 5. Need McKenna.

If McKenna goes number one he will be the 4th best first overall pick in the last 4 years.

Maybe! But still the best prospect by far the Flames will have.

The worst team in the NHL most likely drafts #3

Better than 8th or 9th. By a long shot. Or even 5th.

For me it's top 4. One of McKenna, Stenberg, Lawrence or Verhoeff.
Any of those 4 and I'm thrilled.

sure, YOU just said it has to be 1 or 2 not me. Just telling you the odds so don't get your hopes up. An 0-82 team is most likely to draft 3rd.

8th place team based on win percentage and the record the Flames need going forward to beat that level by a point.
