Sure, one of them was a NHL player, one of them was not. But neither of them were prospects.

We voted for Pelletier in the prospect rankings the summer before that season while Farabee was entering his 6th season. Pelts graduated during that year I suppose

That just means that the Flames would have a better record if they hadn't traded their vets. You know, in the rebuild. It's a pretty simple factual statement as to why the Flames are last.

In other words: Conroy's decisions are partially to blame for where we are this year. He is throwing Conroy under the bus. And it tracks with the comment that Conroy is still being evaluated as GM.

And it tracks with the growing concern that they aren't all on the same page, and that they don't all want a rebuild
I don't read it that way at all.

One problem Maloney is overlooking is that players have to want to stay as well. And by majority of accounts, Anderssons moving on. So he can say whatever he wants with as much gusto as he wants but it's the players who make those choices.

I really miss Ken King and Brian Burke.

I am not so worried about Conroy - I think it is weird that he isn't talking, but I find it weird that Maloney is talking. Either declare a rebuild and be honest, or say nothing at all. Don't come out there and outright lie in the faces of people handing you thousands of dollars. That's what we think happens with the 'slimy car salesmen' analogy.

I thought this was less controversial actually than yesterdays. I mostly agree with what he said.

  • Most of the young prospects should be in the AHL, and simply getting reps in the NHL as part of their development plan. Let them improve before having to come on to this team.
  • I took the Andersson talk as all posturing. If Andersson was going to be re-signed, it probably would have happened by now.
  • Ditto with Kadri. Yes, you want good vets to help your young players enter the NHL, but the writing is on the wall here.
However, I take exception with this:

Quote:
We don't want to go into the season saying, ‘We want to draft in the top five.’ I don't want to, in any way, shape or form, be associated with that, because then, why are we doing this? Just to fantasize we're going to get a star player?

Followed-up by this:

Quote:
The Celebrinis are the exceptions. Look at even (Connor) Bedard a year ago…and now he's back to the level he should be.

Doubling-down. He (and I guess the entire management team) are either distrustful, or incompetent. I don't see a third option based on what he continues to say.

Again, just should have kept his big mouth shut, and everything would have been fine. He could have walked some things back a little, but instead, he doubled-down. I find it quite personally insulting, and it leaves me no choice but to either call the man a liar, or call him incompetent. I guess I will have my mind made up by the time the Flames are officially eliminated from the playoffs.

I really believed all these public missteps were behind the Flames, even though there have been some missteps that I personally feel embarrassed about. Now this. All that was missing was a "So I think I know a little bit about winning, if there ever was a concern."

Right. You believe it was a Nazi salute because some idiot in the media told you it was a Nazi salute. Just like some posters believe the Flames are not rebuilding because some idiot in front of a microphone won't use the word ‘rebuild’.

Remarkably similar attitudes, actually.

FFS. I preferred the neverending "are they rebuilding or not chattering".

I agree with you that the words are meaningless in the big picture although in this case unfortunately for the Flames they lost some goodwill with their customers.

Actions count. What moves would you like to see the club make through the rest of the season? Is not spending their cap space and making their draft picks enough?

Disagree. You know CP is really cooking when someone on FOI starts defending Nazis for no reason.

I want them to make a good deal for Andersson and look for good deals for Kadri and Coleman, and even others if there is interest. I won't lose sleep if they can't find a deal for the guys with term, because niether seem to be slowing and there's time.

But let's not pretend they aren't last with all those guys anyway. Some people want the trade to esnure last place. I can't think of a game where I thought "they won because of Kadri". Or Coleman. Or Andersson.

If what Francis supposedly said on 960 is true and he believes there's a zero percent chance that they trade more than one of Andersson, Kadri and Coleman this year and that Maloney said Kadri is untouchable then this organization is clueless.

I knew something was up when Steinberg kept hammering the point that they aren't trading Kadri and Coleman unless they ask for a trade every night, this team can never be proactive.

We think there is time, but the clock can run out on 35+ year olds at any time.

The trades won't magically increase in value as they get later into their 30s.

Not magically, no. But they might increase in value just normally.

I won’t lose sleep over any of it but we differ around the importance of a Kadri deal. His value will not get any higher and Conroy needs to extract the biggest return possible this season. Come out of the blocks next season with a team centered around your new top pick, Parekh, Coronato, Gridin and Wolf. With several more strong prospects in the pipeline. That might get fans excited even as the team struggles.

I don’t disagree the team is rebuilding currently, but I’d like to see them move faster.

If we hear that no one blew away the flames with an offer for some of the veterans it will be an opportunity lost IMO.
