Yeah, I think Dreger said that the Carlo offer was on the table last season for Ras and GMBT thought the deal was done. He good at assuming deals are done.
That’s pretty close to the correct value, but not sure how TOR matches that this year. I think the smoke is just GMBT busy work kicking tires and tossing low ball offers.

If anyone watches the Leafs this year within the first two periods it seems they're under 12 shots every night. It's pretty unbelievable. Again, their leader Matthews although currently injured, refuses to use the body or battle down low. Tavares and Nylander are killing it. They work hard but they need their skilled guys to take the body every now and then. Marner was a problem because him and Matthews played the exclusive skilled game and didn't deviate from that. Nobody wants to bowl through anyone on that team. Even Knies has taken a step back.

If the Carlo deal, Minten + 1st was on the table last year, I understand why Conroy declined it. Minten isn't anything special. It's an overpay for a very average Carlo, but Andersson should have garnered a better prospect considering where the Leafs 1st was projected to be. If they poop in the standings this year that 1st is looking great but at the deadline Andersson deserved more.

But it’s consistent with his previous behaviour. So either this is who he is or he is just a puppet to ownership

The Bruins had to retain on the deal as well which I assume the Flames would have also been required to do which I agree would have required more assets.
Just looking at how it is going about a quarter way through and Boston possibly getting a top 10 pick it sure would have been amazing for the Flames to be in that spot.

This is one of the reasons why selling early would be a good idea.
Lots of teams competing for the playoffs, but not everyone can make it. Find the right sucker and profit.

A good chunk of this board was excited about the potential of that 2026 Vegas pick when the team traded Hanifin. It was less exciting this summer since th Knights added Marner, re-signed Eichel and look poised to be at the top of the league.
With that said they are sliding now with only 3 wins in their last 10. If the season ended today the flames would get the 14th pick (could be as high as 4 if Vegas won the lottery).

If the season ended today, they'd have to rank by point % since teams haven't played the same amount and Vegas would be 11th overall.

Imagine them winning the lottery and another team outside the top 10 winning the other pick. Flames pick 1-2 would be absolutely wild

It's November 14th. I would pump the brakes on predicting the final seedings based on today's standings. Things are going to look different in March.

For sure I have very little hope that Vegas actually misses the playoffs and the Leafs and Oilers remain around the bottom half of the league but with how terrible the Flames are I am really enjoying these teams that are expected to be good struggle so much especially when they are in a tight window

It is kinda incredible to think of the team that Brad inherited 3 years ago and where he has brought the team.
Traded a 3rd and a 6th for Lybushkin
Traded a 3rd and a 5th for Edmundson
Traded a 6th for Cade Webber
Traded a 4th and a 21 yr old former 5th round pick for Connor Dewer
Traded a 7th round pick for the negotiating rights to Tanev
Traded a 1st and top prospect in their org for Laughton and a 4th and a 5th
Traded a 1st, a 4th and Minten (19 year old former 2nd rounder) for Carlo
Traded a 3rd for Maccelli
Traded a 4th for Dakota Joshua
In terms of acquiring picks he did the following
Pulled a classic Brad trading the 23rd overall pick in the 24 draft to drop to 32nd and pick up a 58th overall pick
Then moved the 58th overall pick to Florida for the 64th overall pick in 2025 and a 7th rounder
Traded Liljgren for a conditional 3rd and a 6th
Traded Conor Dewer and Timmins for a 5th (moved down one round and gave up a prospect in the overall Dewer transaction plus lost Timmins)
Just classic Wizardry there with the Leafs assets to get them to where they are today.

There is not really a logical reason to think this season the Leafs will finish higher than the following teams in their division - Habs, Sens, Panthers imo.
It is logically to think that they will have less points than at least one of Detroit, Tampa, Boston.
Then it becomes a question if they are 5th in their division about whether they can get more points than the 4th place team in the Metropolitan division.

Especially in the East. Except for Buffalo, any team could finish almost anywhere. Who would have picked Florida to be tied with Columbus at this point in the season? But I don't imagine they'll be anywhere close to each other at the finish.

The Leafs 5th best forward is Robertson.
Their backend is terrible and the goaltending is suspect. There is a lot of parity but I suspect the Leafs don’t make it at the end of the day.

Probably not, but I'm not counting them out just yet. If their D corps ever starts looking like a D corps and not a cheerleading squad for opposing forwards, they could get it together enough for a wild-card spot.

Athletic article not very flattering of the Leafs spot and saying they can’t keep spending all their assets.
It has been very satisfying watching Treliving fail with a team I already didn’t like before he got there

Best thing to happen to CGY was Brad wanting away from the team.
F Boston Pizza too, you charge too much!

And Bradley can't claim ownership meddling this time. He has brought this all on himself.
