Is Jamil Javani going to be the next conservative leader?
It’s hard to know who the next leader will be, but one thing is certain - they’ll make a terrible decision. While the rest of the country moves toward the center, they’ll pick someone like Leslyn Lewis.
If I were a betting man, my money would be on Doug Ford being the leader who takes them into the next election.
Ford wants it, but I do not think he wants to go up against Carney. He's probably satisfied being the Ontario overlord for now as long as he can keep grifting away things like the green belt to developers.
Conservatives should want Peter MacKay or Jean Charest to come back and try again... an "outsider" to this current regime with some respectability to them.
Leslyn would be pretty awful and far too religious. But I cannot see this conservative party following a non-white guy. Letting her lose in the leadership race is as close as they are willing to get to it.
Despite living in Metro Vancouver, I have randomly met Andrew Scheer twice. Once, waiting to be picked up outside YYC. The second, at a pub here in Richmond. I shook hands with him at the airport - it was the limpest handshake I've felt since meeting Stephane Dion in 2008. Both just horrible handshakes.
They both lost their general elections as leader soon after shaking my hand. Coincidence? Maybe. But those handshakes? Brutal!
Scheer was very nice, for the record.

CP will go fund you if you come to Alberta and shake Danielle Smith's hand.

The rural conservative base absolutely has an element of that, 100%. Hell not just the rural. You'd have to have your head buried pretty deep in the sand to be ignorant of it.
