Default Christopher Tanev's Playing Career May Be Over

Tanev sustained a concussion earlier in the season and last night sustained another one and was taken off the ice on a stretcher. Feel bad for the guy, he was a warrior for the Flames. If anyone screams future NHL head coach, though, it is him.

One of my faves ever. Looked like a nothing bump. He’s earned a great retirement. Hang them up buds. Stay in hockey in another capacity.

My kid and his buddy spotted him walking his little dog in Marda Loop a few years ago and asked for a pic. My kid said he was amazing. Kid was on cloud nine he met this mythical TV beast with a little doggo.

That's terrible news. I really wanted him to win a cup before he retired. He was such a warrior for CGY. I really wish he recovers fully, so that his quality of life after hockey doesn't suffer.

As a side note, Tanev is a guy I would love to have around the Flames as a coach, because I absolutely love how he thinks the game defensively.

As a player he sums up what hockey is all about. Toughness, grit etc.

Is this speculation that his career is over or are there credible reports out there?

The scary thing is the hit didn't look bad, unless I missed him hitting his head on the ice or something?

All 65kg of Michkov produces a lot of force. Also agree the thread title is a tad hyperbolic, but a concussion in the game after coming back from a concussion is not a great sign.

Tanev has been discharged from a Philly hospital, no timeline for return.

I wish him nothing but the best. Everything I've seen or heard has been nothing but positive about him as a person and a player.

Loved wherever he has been.

Tanev is a gladiator, one of my favourite flames over the last decade.

Not sure what happened there, doesn’t look bad. Scary to see him down like that though.

Wish him a quick recovery!

Seems like speculation. I hope he can recover and return to playing and not rush things either. It's still early in the season and they're not pushing for a Cup right now. Take it easy now so you can play hard later.

Speculation, though have repeat concussions including the innocent looking one last night is not a good sign.

He wasn’t ready to come back yet is basically what that meant last night.
Sad.

Oh the many times I've uttered the phrase while watching the Flames D "Why can't you be more like Chris Tanev?!"

What a player. What a person.

That sucks, he was an absolute warrior and this is a crappy way to go down.

I just think it's premature for us to be memoralizing his career at this point. Not you specifically but in this thread there's plenty of ot already.

It looked pretty innocuous. He didnt charge him, board him or target the head. It didnt look like there was a whole lot there.

It was interference but just seemed like a shoulder check, although Michkov is built really solid. Tanev just went down like a rock. Terrible to see.
