In recent history we've seen Mangiapane, Markstrom, Hanifin, Tanev, Lindholm, Zadorov, and Toffol all moved out with draft picks and young players looking for a new situation as the predominant returns.

I'd love to see Parekh (and Zary+Coronato to lesser degrees) get used differently, but I also think there's value in not just giving the young players free-reign without establishing key values, principles, and standards of professionalism. We laughed at the Oilers for years and years for being bad and fostering a losing culture.

This is a rebuild, the team overachieved in spite of it last year but this season so far is going as most would have / should have expected. There will be a LOT of growing pains going forward, I just wish they were more entertaining to this point.

How many young players do we even have playing? Coronato, who looks like his confidence has been shattered by Huska. Wolf, who looks like he is fed up with getting hung out to dry.

Parekh, Zary, Gridin, Kerins, Bruz no where to be found. We are playing all the old crappy vets and the replacement players instead.
So bring in all the youth so their confidence can be shot? Sounds like a good plan.( they probably lose it more from losing then by the coach)

They are not doing a rebuild, that is why there are complaints. They are still prioritizing the old players with no upside. They are playing guys like Kirkland and bishop and whoever instead of giving guys like kerins a fair shot. They maintain players like Hanley and bean on the blue line.

Believe them. They are not doing a rebuild. They just suck. The complaining is because they are seemingly kicking and screaming rather than making moves to maximize our rebuilding potential and thus hopefully minimize the length of time we will suck for. We have already sucked for a while so this is important.

How is he meddling with it lol? This team stinks by design, wasn't a tank what everyone was expecting and hoping for?

It also seems like you're moving the goalposts and grading Huska's entire tenure off the 12 games this season alone. I think Huska has given plenty of opportunity to guys working up the system like Zary, Coronato, Wolf, Pelletier, Klapka, and now Honzek.

If anything his inability to feature guys like Gridin, Kerins, Bru, etc. falls more on management as it's on them to clear out this logjam of vets in the lineup.

The Parekh situation would be tough for any coach IMO, it's clear the best path for him would be a stint in AHL which is not available for dumb reasons, so they'll just need to manage it best they can. I'm no Huska apologist by any means, I've also been critical of some of the lineup decisions this year, but he over achieved with a very underwhelming team last year, so I'm willing to give him some time on that front to integrate some of these new young guys into the fold.

This team is painful to watch. Their decision making is ridiculously bad.

This is the same roster as last year. Huska got his 2 year extension based on what he accomplished last year. He has to do a lot better. It’s not like the younger guys on roster have been playing good either. While I think the roster is lacking this is more of a coaching problem

If they were prioritizing winning then why haven't they used any cap space or draft capital for win now trades? They are rebuilding, but not the exact way you want it to look, so you refuse to acknowledge it.

This idea that re-building clubs don't play vets is not supported by facts.

Let's take a look at the two worst teams in the NHL the last few years: The Hawks and the Sharks.

In the 2023/2024 season, the Sharks leading scorer was Mikael Gralund. They also had Tomas Hertl, Anthony Delcair, Mike Hoffman, Mario Ferraro, Nico Sturm, MA Vlasic playing big minutes. They traded Hertl and Duclair as the season went on as we suspect the Flames will do with some of their vets.

Their significant younger players were William Eklund, Fabian Zetterlund, and that's about it.

The year before they had the 4th worst record playing Erik Karlson, Logan Couture, Thomas Hertl, Timo Meier, Kevin Labanc, Nico Sturm. Again some of those names were moved out as the team was able to.

The 23/24 Hawks were 2nd last in the league. Apart from Bedard their key guys were Philip Kurashev, Nick Foligno, Jason Dickinson, Tyler Johnson, Seth Jones, Ryan Donato.

They were 3rd worst the year before with a lineup featuring Max Domi, Patrick Kane, Andreas Athanasiou, Seth jones, tyler Johnson, Jonathan toews, Jason Dickinson.

Now these teams are at a point that they have drafted high end guys that are starting to take over their clubs. But that's because they are much further along.

What the Flames look like, is pretty typical of what a last place team looks like.

I generally don’t think there’s a lot of significant complaints.

My big one is the recent media push that Zayne has struggled, when he hasn’t. He’s done quite well in the very limited role he’s been given and think he should be given a bigger role.

Outside of that one specific thing, I’m also not a fan of scratching Coronato/Zary while continuing to play established veterans who seem to get given more grace. I don’t think that’s a good way to manage young players in the modern NHL.

Aside from those things, this season has been pretty much perfect from what my hopes were at the start of the season. No mushy middle was my biggest hope, and that’s come through to a degree that I didn’t even really see coming.

I actually quite enjoy the fact that everyone is now just calling a spade a spade. We’re now rebuilding, when before there was a lot of discussion around how we aren’t rebuilding.

Its not like the Vets are playing well.

Huberdeau may as well not even be here, Andersson and Weegar are absolute tire fires, Coleman is trying to do too much, Backlund is trying to do too little, the only guy I see on a nightly basis with an even moderately acceptable GAF level is Kadri and even that is inconsistent.

Nobody on this team is really draping themselves or their house in Glory.
